You spent $60 for spray paint $75 for sandpaper and got a dash pad for $16 I say you got ripped off on sandpaper and spray paint.

I wish I could find a dash pad for $16 Firebird or Camaro, put that sucker on e-bay and recoupe you paint and sandpaper expenses.

If I told you,you would fall over.If you didn't,my wife might find out,and I'D fall over!
I bought my car in June of 1992,for $4800.It has had thousands of tanks of gas, bunches of tune ups,oil changes, lots of stupid crap that 17-20 year old kids waste money on,not to mention the tires I went through back in those days.
This is to say nothing for paint jobs,2 Earl Sheibs,a good one from a local shop, and the last one done by myself.
If I recall correctly, there have been 15 engines in my car, ranging from the original 5.7 TPI,to the 468 in it now.The grocery list includes several 350s,a 305 to get me around a while once, two different 383s,a 283,a 421 that never made it out of the garage,2 406s,and now the 468.
I can't even remember how many different sets of wheels I've had on it.And audio equipment, back in "the day",which was ,again,17-20 for me,I spent a fortune on.

So if you figure every penny I've ever dumped into my car,it is kind of sickening, but I'll bet it's over $50,000.

Had to ask,didn't ya!!!

LOL,I went through a big learning curve.I had a lot of ambition in my early twenties, and built a lot of engine combos.By then,it was no longer a daily driver.I learned a lot,and regret none of it.If I regret anything,it's not learning more about EFI and tuning it while I still had it.
I chucked a couple of engines when I first started playing with nitrous, cast pistons don't get along with that stuff too well. It's a long, boring tale, but you've also got to figure,15 engines is over the course of 14 years.Yes,that's still a bunch, but most simply got replaced for the bigger better deal syndrome.

Probably under $1k with all the cheap Japanese Autozone starters and misc motors and sensors I have replaced in the car.

Yeah, i'm not as rich, or don't have as high of a credit limit as most of you people.

Minimum of $20k into all three plus purchasing :-)

Its prolly closer to or over $25k.

Still cheaper than one new car :-) and low insurance to boot

I'm too scared to ever even attempt a true calculatio, prolly greater than the GNP of some thirdworld countries lol

I had about $12,000 into the Iroc; and it still was rotted and needed paint. This is why I stopped with that car; as the last time this exact topic came up I added up the receipts and almost shat myself!

After 16 years of owning her, I'm in about 25 grand.
Purchase price in 1990 $4,800
new engine $5,400

I have all receipts, just too lazy to complie a list. What kills me is the wasted money from trial & error.

I paid $13,500 for the car (It was only a couple of years old with 15,000 miles on the clock)..

I had to pick up a set of gold diamond spoke wheels.. (It had some nice aftermarket wheels when I got it, but I wanted the car to be factory stock)

Over the next 14 years, I had it painted because of the dreaded 3rd gen clearcoat chalking, and of course the tranny went at 70,000 miles.

That stuff, along with other sundry repairs over the last 14 years, has put me up around $20,000. I have every bill, but I'm too lazy to add them all up right now.

Hmmmm. . .

I bought the car new in May of 1985 for about $19,500

Interest on the 14% loan was about $5000 (good thing I paid it off early)

(2) sets of gatorbacks plus (1) set of radial T/As = $2100

Headers, exhaust, SLP cold air, wires, coil, etc., etc., = $1000

Brakes, front end stuff, A/C, headliner, water pump - oh forget it.

I can't add any more. This is depressing me.

Your car is absolutely stunning. I was checking out all the pictures of your restoration. Why do you want to sell it? That's a keeper if I ever saw one.

Well, I guess I have nothing to complain about.
Car purchased in 82,, cost, taxes, interst on car loan. 18,000
2 two transmission rebuilds, 1989, 1992 --> 1600
Complete body work/paint 1996 ---> 3000
New 350 with TPI all new parts, 1998 ----> 5000
Repair from accident in 2002, suspension upgrades ---> 20,000
New 4L60e transmission complete install --- 4000.
total ~~~ $51,600

Still feeling like I'm 27 everytime I get behind the wheel PRICELESS!!!!
