Questionable '85 Iroc

Questionable '85 Iroc
About two weeks ago I picked up a red '85 Iroc, but I'm really starting to question it. I have a couple questions that you guys might be able to answer:
I found the B4Z code as well as the Z28 in the console, but it has no Iroc striping; also, on the passenger side on the dash it doesn't have "Iroc-Z" under the Z28 emblem as I have seen on other 85's. Instead, it says "Tuned Port Injection". Is mine wrong, or is the one I saw incorrect?
The back bumper also doesn't have the "Tuned Port Injection" emblem which I have seen on most, if not all, Irocs. Is it missing, or was it made that way?
It does have the fog lights, which I thought made for sure it was an Iroc, but it doesn't have any louvers on the hood; was it possible to order a Z28 without hood louvers, or is the hood off another car? Is there a code for a louvered hood vs. a non-louvered hood?
Another interesting feature is that the car has no rear spoiler; the console doesn't have a code for the spoiler, and the rear hatch doesn't have any holes indicating that there ever was one. Also, I pulled the interior panels in the rear and there was never any of the side extentions for the spoilers. Was it possible to order a Z28, if not an Iroc, without a rear spoiler?
The car also has Iroc wheels, and it does indeed have the code in the console for the Iroc wheels; therefore, I'm assuming that the car is originally an Iroc.
Does anyone know when production was begun in the year of 85 Irocs?
Could the car have been ordered this way? Could I have possibly purchased a rare factory-production car? Any information would be much appreciated, thanks.

Wow, I think you got it right on... The car was actually produced and sold in California. The original owner had it there for ten years... Huh, cool.
Did they come without any striping whatsoever?

Yeah, I can try to post some pictures sometime next week. Is there an RPO code for the California Iroc? I'll get a pic up of the RPO codes in the console, too.
Anyone else have any info on these things?

Here's a couple pics of a black California IROC. I love how clean these cars look with no striping or spoilers...
Hey, looks like the same car Red1992V6Rs posted up above... What a coincidence! He posted while I was hosting my pics...

Hey guys! Thanks for your interest and the pictures posted. I've done a little research tonight, and found that the red one with the t-tops is Adam Jones' California, and the black one, as mentioned above, is Dave Sauro's. I'll post some pics up of mine a little later in the week. Mine is a red one, much like Adam's, only there's a door molding on it. Could it possibly be stock door molding? If not, I'll probably be removing it. It's an interesting car. I almost didn't buy it; I was skeptical that it wasn't a real IROC. I was looking for one with the rear spoiler and the louvers, but it was just such a very nice car. However, I found the B4Z code, so I went with it... Haha, what a rare find. I'll have pics up this week, I promise!

Door molding could have been added by the original buyer when purchased. Most people don't know it, but door molding was an option. I don't know the RPO code though.
Edit: After literally 10 seconds of research, the door molding RPO is B84 (Exterior Trim/ Body Side Molding).

And then a follow-up RPO designates the colour.
Example . . . if you have a red car with red body molding then your RPO's would be;
RPO 81U - Exterior Color, Primary, Bright Red (would be the colour of your car)
RPO B84 - Black Body Side Molding (would get you the molding in the standard colour which is black)
then
RPO 81Q - Molding Color - Bright Red (would make the molding red)
Sorry for getting a little off topic.

Haha, wow, I didn't realize I'd found such a rare car. About the side molding- I'll go check the RPO to see if it's stock. I've seen this same type on Camaros before, but they were 83/84.
I found it in Washington, Puyallup area. The guy had no idea what he was selling; and I had no idea what I was buying, haha.

Also, to Iroctopless- you didn't get off topic at all, my friend. I started this thread to figure out what the car is and what's stock on it, so RPO codes and descriptions are always welcome. Thanks for the info!
Anyway, I checked out the console and it turns out there's no B84. So I guess the side molding was put on by the dealer or someone afterwards. I'm really hoping it's only attatched with double-sided foam tape, as opposed to pop-riveted...

I believe they were only available from a handful of dealers in Cali. Other than the decal delete, flat hood and lack of spoiler I think they are the same as a standard IROC.

I really like the "sleeper" look of your find. Very cool ride.

I am one of the crew! I'll probably be posting a link to this thread in my thread on Cascade Crew, so any who are interested can easily find more information/pictures of the cars.

Yea the moldings should not be pop-riveted on. They are just held on by a strong adhesive. If you want to take them off, just get a hair dryer to warm up the molding and peel it off SLOWLY. It shouldn't take any paint off. Then just scrub it with warm soapy water.

 I dunno, my buddies old 85 TA had black door moulding that was pop riveted on. Sucked *** when we tried to shave it. Could've been added after initial purchase though.

Re: Questionable '85 Iroc
Hrm, well I think I'm just going to leave it alone for now. It has a nice look to it as is, and I don't want to screw anything up. I haven't been able to get a camera lately... Bleh, right now the only nice digital I have is over in Virginia. My brother took it on his trip over there. Anyway, I'll try to borrow a nice one and get some pictures here soon.
