Hi im new to this site. i just bought my first car, its a 1982 chevy camaro. its got a 350 automatic, with a built 350 turbo trans, and some head/cam/intake work. the guy i bought it from told me it was originally a indy pacecar, but i doubt it is, it has none of the emblems to show for. can some one help me out or can i check some where with my vin number to find out for sure?

You might want to try a google search. I visited an Indy Pace Car Camaro website awhile back. I actually saw a vin list for the 82 Pace Cars. Other than badging/graphics I do believe the interior was specific to the pace cars only. Not sure about the paint colors though. Nice looking cars. I found one on a used car lot a few years ago here. It had a crappy blue paint job on it, but the interior and wheels were all there. Had some rust issues so I passed.

the vin will not tell you if its a pace car or not you will have to go find the RPO build sheet to look for the RPO code.

But if its a blue & silver then it might be.

First off it wouldnt have a 350 in the car there were only 2 of the 82 pace car 350 cars made & one is in GM & the other one went to the winner of the race.

You can also check the cowl tag. It should have 16U and 16L on it and it should have 26G. If those are on the tag, the car is a Pace Car. The seats are also specific and should be dark blue with Z28 embroidered on the head rest. If the rims are still original, they will have a red stripe on them. Good Luck.
