exterior decal placement on 87 trans am ws6

Hey guys and dolls. When I bought my TA it didnt have decals on it (Previous owner stripped them off to paint car and never painted car.) So, I bought decals for the car from Phoenix. Big mistake. I get the decals in an envelope with no locations or instructions AND one of the "TRANSAM" decals was sliced through the text when they hacked it out of a sheet of vinyl...crooked. THEN they said I must have damaged it and no refund. I'll post a pic of the hacked thing at a later date.

Now to my question.

how do I locate the sail panel birds and the "trans am" logos per the factory. I only have a chiltons manual ans this doesnt deal with those kinds of things. Were these sort of eye-balled" into position or is there some reference point. The 3" sailpanel (and hood) birds are on big pieces of vinyl (like a 6" x6" square and the TA script is trimmed so close and crooked....ugh

A friend of mine owns a sign shop and he said if anyone needs stickers, you may want to find a local signshop; bring one in and they can match it and print em for a few pennies. Might be worth it to some of you guys on a budget.

Only downside is that those birds and text are copyrighted by GM and I know they have gone after even small shops for producing that stuff without prior authorization.

Wish I could help on the placement. I could measure my sail panel birds but the "TRANS AM" decals are long gone from my car.

Re: exterior decal placement on 87 trans am ws6

I believe Phoenix has a license agreement with GM.

There was not an EXACT location for any particular decal. They were reletively about where they should be. Albeit they did have soem consistancy.

Basically the Sail panel birds are about 2.5 to 3" back from the Door window and about the same distance up from the highlight line on the quarter panel.

The Nose bird should be about mid way between the hood and where the facia rolls down in the center obviously.

The Trans Am on the sides should be above the highlight line centered between the front wheel opening and the door.

The Trans Am on the Front facia is located on the Flat section as is the rear. I want to think my friends 86 was just above the lower highlight line above the stripe decal.
