Contoured Floor Mats

I have been working with Eckler's regarding some contoured floor mats.

I gave Thomas Strickland (Eckler's Camaro Brand Mgr) my floor mats as a sample and he had ACC try to duplicate the design and contour. They gave me a set of sample floor mats that are a perfect fit, contour and all. Unfortunately, they gave me a black set, but they fit really nice. The point to this post is to announce that Eckler's Camaro will soon have every stock 3rd gen color floor mat with the contour! They received the correct color samples just today and will soon have part numbers for each color. For those looking for the correct fit, it's coming. Not sure on the prices yet, but I'll keep everyone informed when they become available.

Re: Contoured Floor Mats

Cool, I could use them 'cause I'm using my ratty old back ones together up front.

Wouldn't be suprised if they're at least $80. If not more because they're molded to fit.

Re: Contoured Floor Mats

Sweet, I've wanted a molded set for awhile. Do you know if they'll have a rubber backing on them like factory carpets? I had a set of floor mats that were foam backed and they just seemed cheap.

Either way, thanks for getting the floor mats made. I've wanted a contoured set for years.

What is so hard about floor mats that fit. I have purchased two sets over the years with a perfect fit. The last set is pictured.

You might want to try to put them in the correct spots, as you have the driver's side on the passenger side and vice-versa.

The cut out area in the upper left on the mat you have in the passenger's foot well is for the dead pedal area in the driver's foot well. It should not take a rocket scientist to figure this out but in this case, it did.

I lol'd. But if Eckler's bought ACC, that means they also bought ACS/Dorsett, and from what I hear Eckler's has some pretty nice products. Just got a set of floor mats from Jim85IROC, I wonder how far from stock they are....

I commend you on your post.

Now if we can get Eckler's to make some mats for the DT500 owners. The problem is to get the licensing agreements from the France family, owners of the logo.

No they are not. I have contoured rubber Camaro mats and yours are definetly on the wrong side. Just switch them and you will see.

I thought ACC's were already cut like factory? The problem here is that even if they get the exact stock cut, exact color, exact quality, etc., they still won't have the GM emblems, which is so frustrating.

Re: Contoured Floor Mats

Correct me if im wrong but doesnt ACC carpet have a fading issue? Im extremely concerned with fading as I have black interior with t tops. Id like to have to only purchase carpet once. Has Ecklers done anything to adress the fading? Im definatly in for a set if I can be assured its not goin to fade to purple or brown like Ive seen.

Re: Contoured Floor Mats

Well, it's irrelevant now. There were two major carpet companies to choose from, ACC, and ACS/Dorsett. They are now one company. So if you want carpet, you're either getting it custom at an interior/upholstery shop, or you're getting ACC.

Re: Contoured Floor Mats

I just bought carpet from Jim. And the boxes say Automotive Custom Carpets, Inc. He used to sell ACS/Dorsett, but after the merge, he obviously can't sell it anymore, because it's not there to sell.

Hopefully the merger keeps ACS's quality, with ACC's color selection.

Re: Contoured Floor Mats

Sorry for the length of time to respond but I wasn't getting email notifications.

The floor mats are rubber backed with anti slip nubs. I'll try to post pics soon. Also, I was told that the fading/discoloration issue has been addressed. The outside edge of the floor mat has the same border as the original, not a sewn or embroidered edge.

The difference in these mats over every other mat is these have the contour over the passenger hump. They are a perfect fit with no bunching up. I will be getting some in the correct color soon. Maybe I can get a group buy set up.

Re: Contoured Floor Mats

For those concerned about the GM logo on the mats, I can ask Eckler's if there is any chance to duplicate that. I plan on removing the logo from my original mats and carefully gluing them to the new ones. The Florida air has deteriorated the backside of my factory mats and they are falling apart even though they still look like new. My plan is to have new grey mats for shows with the logo and use the sample set on top so that the show mats stay clean.

That would be so sweet if they can get the GM logo on them! I hope they don't put a ridiculous price on these mats.

Re: Contoured Floor Mats

I spoke with Eckler's again today and was informed that I provided misinformation about ACC and Eckler's. ACC was not acquired or purchased by Eckler's. I thought I had heard that earlier this year, but I was mistaken. Please disregard that info. Eckler's is working with ACC on getting these floor mats for us.

As for timing and price, I was told that the timing could be as early as the end of this month. Pricing has not been determined yet, but should be very surprising. Let's wait and see.

Re: Contoured Floor Mats

Ok, they are here!!!

Go to Eckler's website www.ecklerscamaro.com and and search for part 714277. They are trying to match interior colors to the names that GM provided them, so be patient with the color options. The picture posted is not any resemblance of the actual floormat. It was a stock photo used. I already ordered my set so they can use those for the correct photo.

I was told that there would be a discount offered to TGO members and members of the worldwidecamaroclub.com forums, but to place your order, you need to call them. When ordering, mention Thirdgen.org. I will get pics up tonight of the samples in my car.

They can't do the logo piece as part of the floor mats because of licensing issues. However, I am trying to get into contact with GM and see if we can get the rubber emblems and supply them seperately for those that want them. I will keep you up to date on those.

Re: Contoured Floor Mats

I notice that the driver's side isn't quite the right shape as my original is. It has an angled edge at the front. The backing isn't the same, but I do like the anti-slip nubs. Guess I'm being too picky.

Re: Contoured Floor Mats

THe problem with going by GM color names is in some cases Pontiac and Chevy used different names for the same parts. I know this is especially true for Exterior colors...

I might be able to supply them with the information from the Parts catalogs for year by year info for both Pontiac and Chevrolet.

Re: Contoured Floor Mats

Are Firebird and Camaro mats the same? I just want to double check, the only difference I could see is the kick panels.

Also, I see ACC offers embroidery, I'd want either the Firebird text or the bird they have. Do you think I would be able to get that done on these mats?

Re: Contoured Floor Mats

Scott has the BOSE stereo, so his kick panels are different. Otherwise Normal Camaros have exactly the same kick panels, and Carpeting, and floor mats...

From what I know there are 3 different color Tans.Doeskin was the very light tan used in 91-92.Saddle Tan was in 85-87 and Beechwood Tan from 88-92

Re: Contoured Floor Mats

I must confess that I modified the photos you see above in Photoshop. The floor mats I have are embroidered with the Camaro logo. Eckler's said that since they are trying to replicate the factory look, these would not have the embroidery. Also, for the record, the price you see is for all 4 mats, not just the front.

In response to the shape, they used my originals as a template so they are an exact shape match. The picture makes it look angled, but that's the angle I took the picture with the floor contour. Below is the exact floor mat as I received it with mine as a comparison. I noticed that they even duplicated the ribbing with the start/finish in the same location as factory. The 1st picture makes it look like the ACC mat is larger, but they are the same size as can be seen in the 2nd pic.

Re: Contoured Floor Mats

Here is the colors that I have so far... Unfortuantely the Illustrated Parts catalogs (IPC) that I have for Camaros only goes back to 1985 on the Floor mats so I found more information in the Carpet section...
The 82 information excet for the Dark Calaret I found in the Camaro Section of the 82 Dealer Album, no RPO was associated with them...

RPO Year(s)`IPC color name
````82```` Dark Blue,
````82```` Jade,
````82```` Camel,
````82```` Silver Gray,
````82```` Charcoal,
````82```` Maroon
79I ' 82```` Dark Calaret
22I `83-84``Blue (Dark Royal Blue - Firebird)
60I `83-84``Sand gray (Lt. Sand Gray - Firebird)
67I ' 84```` Dark Briar Brown (Briar Brown - Firebird)
17I `83-84' `Dk Charcoal (Charcoal - Firebird)
64I ' 83-84``Med DoeSkin
62I `85-87'` Light Saddle
19I `85-92``Black
72I `85-91``Carmine Red
66I `88-91``Beechwood
73I `92`````Flame Red
64I `92`````Beige
82I `85-92``Med Dark Gray

The "I" = Floor Mats

The Number is the identifier for the color
