Re: Anyone want a JY Formula 350 T-top car?

From what I see that car is far from being rough.

Just from looking at the engine bay it looks like it was well
taken care for.

Not a bird fan other than some of the loaded GTA cars but if
bidding does not get out of hand, think not a bad looking car.
Rust would be one thing to worry about.
Looks like he didn't try to hide the rust thats there.
But there's always that hidden stuff.

Re: Anyone want a JY Formula 350 T-top car?

I'm not knowledgeable about fomulas, but questions are as follow:
if this car is indeed a 350 car, aint the door decals suppose to say formula 350?

plus i thought 350 cars from 91-92 models weren't suppose to have t-tops ? maybe i have been misinformed...

non the less hopefully the rust is just skin deep and nothing more..otherwise ouch!

91-92 Formula 350's only said "Formula" on the door. They had a 5.7 sticker on the hood bulge. Also, you could get 91-92 Formula 350s with T-tops as long as you got the GTA wheels. (It was a weight issue.)

Re: Anyone want a JY Formula 350 T-top car?

This is my friends car. I can answer any questions you have on it.

There are some good points and low points to the car.

The rust issues. Nothing is rotted through, the floors arent soft and crunchy. It is what it is. It almost sucks that the body is the way it is because the underhood and interior are almost mint. This is one of the few 3rd gens that I've seen that the driver seat isnt all torn up.

As someone who does restorations for a living, this car is very savable, no major sheetmetal replacement. Personally, Id touch up the rust spots as best possible, and drive the crap out of it. You never see these on the roads.

Re: Anyone want a JY Formula 350 T-top car?

Thats the unfortunate thing about alot of the Northeast cars that
are daily drivers.
We'd have alot more 3rd gens out there if it wasn't for salt and chemicals
on the roads.
Don't know if full undercoating was an option or not. That would have saved
alot of them.
Mine only came with inner fenderwheel coating, But West Coast car.

Don't even like salt on my food.

That thing is terrible condition! Anyone who says otherwise has more money than brains or loves projects hardcore lol!

The fact that this is a factory L98 CC1 car is the ONLY thing it has going for it at this point. I've only seen rust that bad on a FORD lmao!

Gotta love the honesty!

Wow, pretty harsh. Here in Chicago we're not blessed with the same weather as you guys from the land of nuts and fruits.

Im not trying to pass the car off as a Cali car, a restored car, etc. It is what it is. Is it perfect, no, Im not trying to make it seem perfect. Is it a rot box, no, it doesnt need floors, it doesnt need doors, doesnt need any major sheetmetal replacement.

To restore this car from a financial stand point, I agree with you, it will cost you more than its worth. I've learned a couple things while in this business, there is always someone who is crazier and has more money than you.

As for the hole in the muffler, you're right I point out everything. There is nothing more annoying than showing up to look at a car and finding out its nothing like it was described to be. I made the 8 hour trips to find out a car is nothing remotely close to what it was described as. I do not want to put someone else through that.

In all honesty its comments like yours that I didnt even list this car here on TGO first. Same reason why my 89 IROC ragtop didnt get listed here. That one sold on ebay in 1 week. Im not sure why a forum of people who are into these cars are typically ****** about it. Its kinda sad.

Re: Anyone want a JY Formula 350 T-top car?

That's a gorgeous car. I love the 91-92 Formulas best out of all the 3gen Firebirds. And that yellow is rare and exotic. It will make someone very happy to drive and own.

I do agree, at least partly, with 92GTA though. That car's got some real rust repairs ahead, unless someone buys it just to drive it into oblivion. It sure looks like it will need at least a driver front floorpan section. If that's showing in these pictures, there's a better-than-even chance there's rust in some of the other usual 3gen Fbody rusty places too, like up in the front fender support pinchwells (concealed normally by the front fender doglegs and wheelhouse moldings).

If I was going to bid on the car I'd have an impartial inspector look it over, or would ask the seller to take a bunch more pictures. Still a beautiful car though! And looks like the title is clean.

Re: Anyone want a JY Formula 350 T-top car?

The rust is mildly scary, but get real... It's still in better shape then at least 50% of the cars on thirdgen.org and probably 90% of the thirdgens still on the roads. All I ever see on the roads anymore are smashed up base models, or Firebirds with headlights permanently up, paint that's all fallen off leaving primer to rust, etc. No one has done any retarded modifications to add cupholders or more spoilers, etc.

Considering the rare combinations that make this car desirable, the mileage, etc the bid isn't even close to what it's worth. Someone will get a good deal on it. If they choose to restore it, they'll have something that stands out from the rest.

Re: Anyone want a JY Formula 350 T-top car?

Yes, this car is definitely is definitely in MUCH better shape than the majority of midwest cars. I don't see any body panel that would definitely need to be replaced and it's VERY tough to find a car in the Chicago area that doesn't need doors. The driver's floor looks rough in the picture but I think that if you took care of it right away it wouldn't even need to be replaced. Also, most people underestimate that value of picking up a car with a nice interior which this one seems to have.

I don't know what the reserve is set at but the car is definitely worth more than the current bid. We've paid $1000 to $1500 for parts cars recently that were in FAR worse condition than this one.

Re: Anyone want a JY Formula 350 T-top car?

It's rather incredible that this car didn't break $2k. I think it goes to show the state of the economy and the lack of interest in what's truly a rare thirdgen...

I've been following Craigslist for a couple months now and all I ever see are parts car grade thirdgens with the occasional beater grade drivers. Most of the time they're nothing special, and the price for anything IrocZ, Z28, Formula, Trans Am, GTA, that's worth having is close to $5k or more.

Re: Anyone want a JY Formula 350 T-top car?

For what it's worth, I agree. On CL, for the price range this car went for, you'd basically only find a ThirdGen with seat covers covering the ripped/stained seats, cheap/generic (or none) radio, "racing" steering wheel, a swapped 350 carburetor engine and mostly likely some missing A/C components. Not to mention rust or primer and almost definately atleast 150K miles on the car itself.

Though I think the rust was a bit concerning. But I'd think this car is better worth saving in favor of any other car that is on CL for the same price.
