Well when i bought my TA 2 years ago, the previous owner had had part of the car repainted due to vandlism. When I got the car there is no RPO sticker in the center console. I looked for a paintcode on the door jambs but nothing. I have yet to look in the rear hatch/spare tire compartment. But if theres nothing there either where else can I look or how do I decode the VIN # to find out my paintcode? The program at my dealership wont tell me because the car is too old. Any help would be great because im bringing in my cowl hood to the bodyshop monday and need the paintcode. Thanks!!!

Re: Need to find paint code, car has no RPO stickers
The SPID (RPO sticker) for your 1988 would be on the inside wall of the center console. If it's not there, it was removed.
My 1988 Trans AM in white has the following code on the SPID:
WA 8554

Re: Need to find paint code, car has no RPO stickers
Unfortunately, the VIN itself won't tell you anything about the colours of the car, interior or exterior, paint or otherwise.
- Anyway to contact the previous owner on about the colour history of the car? Does he know if the repaint the same colour or what the orginal colour was?
- Did the repaint cover all surfaces? Any hidden clues as to a different colour (in the engine bay, doors, hatch, behind the tailights and door panels, etc)?
- Maybe others can help me as I'm not to familer with Pontiacs, but would the Pontiac Historical Society be able to help? Can they run the VIN to recover RPO's?
- Last chance might be to possibly find a build sheet on the car somewhere, but that's totally a roll of the dice as not all cars have them.
Good luck.

Re: Need to find paint code, car has no RPO stickers
No only the driver side of the car was repainted, I have no way of contacting the pervious owner. I heard there was a website you could buy new reproduction RPO stickers from if you sent them your vin #. I know GM only used 3-4 white paints in 1988 on our cars from what the GM database told me. JT do you have any pics of your white 88 TA I could compare mine to? If worse comes to worse ill just pick a white and hope it matches close enough until I get the rest of the car repainted.

older T/A's had a cowl tag with the paint code ... look on the radiator support, should say like 19U 19L
