This is a Fair Price for an IROC Isnt It?

Well what do yall think about $600 for a 1988 IROC M5.

That motor is shot though. Rod through the block.

Inside is very clean no rips or tears, I was really surprised by this. Will need a dash pad though. Has all the power options.

Body has some surface rust in a few spots but not through anywhere. Everything else is original and there except for the radio. 131K miles.
I always wanted a M5 car so I figured why not. Have not bought it yet but may pull the trigger h very soon.

Car is White with Red decals and gray interior not the ideal color combo for me but I thought it neat to get an M5 car.

Not worried about the swap of engines I figured Id do that myself later down the road in a few months.

not bad for a roller, if the interior is as good as you say it is and the car has no rot on the floors.

No rot on the floors. Carpet is not wet. No mildew smell inside of car. Ill put up some pics. I was really surprised at how clean it was on the inside. It needs nothing inside except for dash pad. Oh it does need a headliner. Im not worried about that though I would be more concerned like you about floor rot and bad moldy carpet and such.

Post up some pics.

Sounds like a good deal, does it have the TPI on the motor, or TBI?

Yes the TPI for it is all there. It was in the trunk. I forgot to confirm the lower intake was there though. Ill do that in the next day or so. He has given me first right of refusal so its mine to loose.

Re: This is a Fair Price for an IROC Isnt It?

What would yall do regading the next engine for this car. Is this really a car that one should worry about putting the correct engine in. The original engine was a LB9.

Re: This is a Fair Price for an IROC Isnt It?

I found that the front seats are not correct after comparing pics and surfing the web. Ill have to find out if I can get my hands on the originals.

I guess right now I would rather just get the most inexpensive thing that would work. Probably another LB9.

The car has 131K.

Re: This is a Fair Price for an IROC Isnt It?

I dunno. $600 is a bit much for a roller IMO. I'm thinking more like $4-500 at best. I guess it depends on your area too. Rust free cars are common down here in the south, so that's nothing special (here). On the other hand, it might be worth twice as much to someone who lives in the rust belt. I only paid $300 for my 91Z Roller that doesn't have 1oz of rust. It also has nice leather interior and a ton of options... I'd offer him $450 and see what he says.

Re: This is a Fair Price for an IROC Isnt It?

I here what your saying, Thats a darn good deal for a 91Z for $300. I live in the south to and have been watching ads and never seen a deal that good. This one has actually been avg to on the low side from what Ive seen. The others that are priced like this one usually are missing the wheels or they may knock some off if they keep the wheels and/or the interior is a wreck or need some body work. Def no 5-spd with all the associated stuff still in place.

But in any case I asked for feedback and I welcome it. I need to know whats fair and whats not.

Re: This is a Fair Price for an IROC Isnt It?

This is how I would look at it:
Used LB9 block: ~$500
Decent Paint: ~1000
So total ABOUT 2100 for a decent condition IROC is a pretty good deal IMO.

Thats in the perfect conditions though of course.

I think for 600$ u really cant go wrong. If worse comes to worse you can always part it out and def. make you money back. good luck

The cool thing with the paint is I can paint cars, my Dad and I did it when I was in highschool. We did several father-son projects together. We have even swaped engines but the cars in the 80s we played around with didnt have the sensors and ECMs like these do. I guess if we took our time we could probably swap in an LB9 as well.

That Z28 I mentioned in the signature was one of the cars we did together. He bought it for my 16th birthday. He got it from a guy who took it from his son after his son busted the 4 spd racing. We put in a new tranny and even swaped in a 350.... even put a new paint job on it. I had to be on my best behavior in it though. One slip up and it was gone!

Hey Coolwheels

I looked at your 91Z. That was a super deal. What are you planning with it? Full resto? I see you have it completly torn down now.

I am actually not to far from you, Im near Douglasville.

Very fair price, and that car deserves nothing but a proper resto, when money allows. I'd love an LB9 M5 to go with my 88 L98!!!!

Good luck, and post some pics! Personally, the only deviation from stock I'd do is I'd change the stripes from red to silver to compliment the interior....

Re: This is a Fair Price for an IROC Isnt It?

Jason E

Im thinking the same thing. Ill take my time put an LB9 in the car and
  • probably repaint the engine bay
  • change all the hoses (make it look new)
  • Put the correct decals in place
  • really clean (however necessary) intake, valve covers, and runners
  • paint the engine
  • all sensors, and asscessories will look like new, if not new
Its ashamed the original engine could not be saved but if this didnt go down this way Id probably not be getting it.

I did get a really good deal for such a solid car. Of course, it needs a lot. I'm going for Full resto as far as body, interior, and drivetrain. I want to do a custom paint job and upgrade the suspension, exhaust, etc... What I REALLY want to find is a wrecked 350tpi car that I can pick up cheap and get the motor and tranny + any little missing pieces that I'm missing, then part the rest out and get some money back. We should get together sometime. I didn't realize you were so close.
I see that you can paint too. Want to paint my hood and new bumper cover for my '84? Body shop that painted the hood on my truck quoted $800 including installing the new bumper cover. I just don't have that kinda cash. I'm hoping to get that done before I really start on the '91
So, what's the verdict? Did you buy it. I recant, $600 isn't bad for a restfree t-top car.

I better wait on painting anyone elses stuff until I paint my car. Its been a few years since I painted a car. My line of work calls for me to paint once weekly (woodworker) but I want to get back into the zone before I spray a car or car parts.

I told him Ill take it and Id be there Tues to pick it up and unless he hears anything else from me Its mine.

Re: This is a Fair Price for an IROC Isnt It?

Im torn about what Im gonna do about the engine. I want something that sounds nasty. Its not going to be a race/drag car but I want it to sound like it is. If I go that route I guess Ill be a while getting this car on the road because Ill need to be buying parts and doing a lot of the work myself. Ill be doing a lot of on the job learning about TPI enignes.

Heres a link to an IROC I found on YouTube
