1987 myROC Restoration
With all these great stories of restorations and rebuilds, it was inevitable I would start my own rebuild/restoration project IROC....
It was about three years ago I started looking for some kind of muscle car project. At the time I had my heart set on a '71 Cuda because of Joe Rogan's "Sik Fish" that Chip Foose designed. My budget was about $1500. So naturally, there was none in decent shape near that amount. As fate would have it one of co-workers overheard me talking to a guy about a mustang, but it was a six banger... I was telling another co-worker I was looking for anything with a V8. She told me her husband was selling a 1987 IROC-Z.... I jumped at the chance! I hadn't seen it, or nothing. It just felt like that car was meant to be mine. They wanted $2500 and all I had was $1000. They let me have it in payments. They called me the day they were dropping it off at my work but I was busy with a patient. They left the keys with my sister who also worked here, and some instructions. As soon as I could I took off to see my new IROC aka myROC. The body was ok, but it needed paint bad!!(will add pics later today) But it was mine!! The day I took it two miles down the street it overheated and broke down. I called them told them I'd give them $1500 total and fix anything that happen, or give me my cash back and keep the car. They took the deal for $1500. I had to replace the whole cooling system. Since then Ive done some mods to the interior, and what not. The engine started messing up so I had to replace it. From a 305 TPI to a 383 Carbed. Rebulilt 700R4 with a shift kit. Minor thing here and there....last step is paint!! So give me some time and I will show you progress now and in the future....thanks for looking!!

Looks like your off to a good start! I love how you ditched the daytona hood and went with a good old IROC hood instead. Those daytona hoods looked good in the 80's but now they are a little out of place IMO. Love the seats too!! Did you get the matching rears? When my car was still white I wanted those 2 tone white and black seats so bad. Might look a little out of place now on an orange car lol. Good luck with it!

It looks like you have a "project" on your hands!!
Best of luck!!
P.S. Are you sure that the car is a 1987, and not a 1986???
Rear hatch third brake light on top 1986, in spoiler 1987, interior looks like 1986, not 1987, speedometer is only 85 mph as in 1986, not 145 as in 1987!!

Re: 1987 myROC Restoration
Thanks for the responses fellas! To answer the MAJOR question at hand, it is an '87 IROC, as per the VIN and Title, the guy before me's ex wife did a number to that back hatch! Poor bastard! LOL! The only one he could find was from a 1986 Camaro, thus the high brake light. As for the fog lights, I bought this car about three years ago and I was an idiot back then and decided to go for a more "modern" look. Not knowing anything about ORIGINAL IROC's and how much the OE fog lights go for I just threw them away.... I have regreted it ever since. But its coming along...

Well I'm sure it looks better already! Good luck with it. Nice to see another one fixed up! And it's cool to see that you own a Z28 in Mexico. I'm sure you get a lot of looks with that car over there!
