You know that rear bumper is easy to get off. It would make it easier to clean and paint. I was leaving mine on too while getting ready to paint, until I looked real close then I pulled it too.

Yes I know, but I am just redoing the car as a driver, I was going to pull the doors off and the entire front end. I decided that if I ever truely restore the car down the road I will do a complete strip down.

Looks like it will be an amazing driver! The floor pans are in awesome shape. Are they original untouched by you?

There was rot in small places, Cut out as little as possible and welded in new metal. I then fiberglassed the floor pans so they would look factory with all the lines and wells. I have sprayed with light undercoating to seal it all off.

You did an good job, I will have to replace my driver floor pan on mine, once I get done working the wheel wells to fit my tire set up in.

You can get the entire pan if you want to keep the factory look (about $300) post some pics up, love to see the work being done to keep these on the road, good luck

Started on the hood, I was going with a 2 inch cowl but I did not care for the fit. I swear you shouldnt pay $400 for a hood and then need to make it fit right, sent back to Goodmark.

Spent 5 hours blocking the hood, I now have the underside of the hood, deck lid painted black. I also have the mirrors and spoiler done, I am planning to start cutting in this week and hope to spray her by Friday. I will snap a few more pics this week, I am starting to get fired up about getting it done.

I still have to put the motor together, and put it in the car. I plan to wire all the stereo equipment and alarm in while I am having the interior done. I plan to let the paint harden up a bit (2-3 weeks) before I start putting in hadles and mirrors and locks. I will be done someday, I have to believe that yes I will be done someday lol

Are you still looking for a hatch pull down motor? I have one off a '91 Coupe I bought, it doesn't work on my '87 Convertible because it was different on the '87. so I had to get one off a '87. if you pay the shipping you can have it. let me know, I'll be back in town next Monday..

Yea it hurts my hands more these days then ever, I am not nearly as young as I used to be. I am still very old school on hand sanding, once I get all the primmer on I will speckle paint it and do a final block.Than Once I seal it I will let it sit for a few days and see what shrinkange shows (any sanding marks will surface) do my final seal coat and spray the black 2 coats. Again it will sit and wait on the shrinkage, tach it spray last coat of black than 3 coats clear. Let it sit for a week or so and wet sand if needed, then buff.

Did you ever have one of those days where you just say " I am over this" my car became overwhelming today. I swear it was a 110 in the garage and I was trying to block sand out the Jellyfish (Low spots from rock chips) on my hood and it was like I was wet sanding with all the dripping. I had to walk away for a bit, maybe I will start back on Monday I need a break!

Well got back on it over the weekend and now she is sealed and ready for paint, by this time tomorrow she will be "back in black" let the spraying begin

I will need to readjust everything once I put the weather stripping back on to fix all the height and fit issues. I already painted all my Jambs and edged in the black under all the spoilers and hood blisters. Now I do not have to worry about scratching any thing when I put it back together. I think she will look good for a daily driver

Okay looking at the car it is very black, I am going to lay down some SS stripes in pearle only (kind of a ghost effect) I am thinking medium blue pearle, or mother of pearle, any thoughts on this?

After going over the car I did not care for the way the clear dried in a few spots, really need to invest in a booth that bakes as well. So I ended up wet sanding the entire car, I am going to add the stripes in the morning, still looking for opinions on a stripe color.

I think white would look great. Love the resto. Do you do body and paint on the side or do you have past experience??

been doing it since I was 15, my uncle had a shop and he took me under his wing way back then. I had a shop at one time and then sold it due to health reasons, this line of work is very tough for a person with asthma, probably what caused it too lol

I still dabble in the work, my own stuff and helping friends out. I dont do any collision work now due to no room and no frame machine

Ended up going with a medium blue pearle, allI did was go a bit heavy on the pearle in the clear and lay down the stripes. . I left it in the booth tonight to dry really well. I will snap some pics on Tuesday before and after I wet sand,

The reason I ended up going med blue is my interior girl came by and she is putting some blue bars and pipeing accents in the new interior to tie it all together. I am also thinking of polishing the original wheels now and adding the same pearle in the insets, any thoughts?

I am not real happy with the stripes, I used more pearle than I should have, thay are not the ghost effect I was going for. I can live with them, I wet sanded them down but did not get a chance to buff them yet. Once buffed they will stand out more than I wanted them too, I did buff the doors so I could see how the paint turned out. I will post more pics while I buff out each panel.

It still has some cutting compound risidual on it, but you can get the idea of how the paint looks. Once I get it glazed and than sealed she will look better, The blue stripes are growing on me now, I was not sure I liked them in the beginning.

Be very carfull when you are buffing with a high speed machine, don't sneeze or you too will need to re-clear your spoiler lol

she is almost done, one more pass with the wheel than all the hand work and I can start on the interior, then the motor, I will finish one day.

Had to reshoot the deck lid but it came out good, I should be done by Friday, I started tearing down the motor Saturday

Well the paint work stops for now, this is the car done with just a cutting compound. Once I use the 3 M perfect-it and a good wax I will get that really deap shine (I hope)

nice job looks good, i would have stopped with the stipes at the hoods edge tho i'm just not a fan of the stripes on the nose cone.

Thanks for the compliments guys, I am now replacing the rear with a 4th gen along with the susspension. I ordered the rear LCR's from Founders and Bilstein shocks, need to decide on springs. I looked at Hotchkins springs and a few others, need to make a choice soon.
