What's it worth?

hello, i found an 82? firebird, 90xxx miles with a v6 (not sure which one-2.6 maybe? ) with a 5 spd for $350. Heres the catch: front end wrecked, off the road since 1993, sitting in a field sunk about 6 inches into the ground. The driver's door is rusted pretty bad but the passenger's seemed good. The interior is rough, dash cracked, carpet moldy and all the other yucky stuff. No seats (has one thats in the guys barn somewhere) and the steering column is out but included. The guy also cant find the title. It does have a few good parts like the radio, console, ins. cluster, glass, tailights, hatch, rear bumper, etc. I believe all the mechanical stuff is there but the hood doesnt really open cause theres a pile of pallots against the front. is it worth it?

Re: whats it worth?

Personally I wouldn't mess with it. I got my 82' for free, and the body is decent-no rust. That's the key, you want a good rust free foundation to build on. If the car is stuck in a field like you say, I'd be willing to bet that the floorboards need replacing at the very minimum. That ain't cheap even if you can do it yourself. I'd be willing to bet if you look around, you can score something much better for your $$$. Just be patient, something will pop up. There are things that just aren't worth saving, and this sounds like one of them. Not to mention you should always get a title. Sounds to me like the owner is to lazy to go get a duplicate title, which would cost him a small amount. Beware!

Re: whats it worth?

Jeebus, free sounds about right. I cant imagine fixing the rust, the entire interior, massive engine work, electronics, suspension, and no title....

It's worth its weight in scrap. $350 is outrageous when $500 will buy you a running thirdgen.

Re: whats it worth?

If it's worth $350 in parts to you, then yes. Otherwise, it sounds like an overpriced pile of...

Still I'd try and haggle them down to $200 or less. Like the other guy said, you can buying running/driving ones with no rust for not much more than that.
