I hope someone can bring it back form the dead, but no way is it going to be a $100K car LOL! I mean it's cool that it's a T-top 4 speed car, but this guy is a bit to proud.

He's going to have to come down a wee bit off that 5k asking price if he wants to entice someone to do that, as it would cost a fortune to bring this thing back to its former glory.

Car: 87 IROC-Z, 82 Pace Car
Re: Restore this car and sell it for $100,000!

John, you're off your rocker!! He clearly stated that the not-so-rare autos have been selling for over $20k so he believes this uber rare 4 speed model to be worth so much more. The problem is, I know someone that has the rare 4 wheel disc setup in NJ with about 800 miles and he couldn't get $25k for the car.

This car in the visible condition is worth maybe $1000 - $1500. After a correct repaint, striping, weatherstripping, mechanical and interior work, you'll have somewhere north of $10k into a 90k mile car. Once fully restored, it'll be worth $13k-$15k in absolutely perfect restored condition.

I also don't know why everyone feels the 4 speed is so rare. The majority of the pace cars for sale are 4 speeds.

Re: Restore this car and sell it for $100,000!

Things like this make me feel so much better about my pace car purchase. I hope someone saves it, but it's a $1k car as-is, probably less depending on what it looks like inside and underneath.

If you offered someone 25,000 I bet you could get someone in China to duplicate the material for you.

Since the Car will clearly be worth $100,000 it is only a small drop to pay in a bigger bucket. (Sarcasm)

Re: Restore this car and sell it for $100,000!

Lol i see this kinda stuff on craigslist too. People offering trashed Irocs for $6k and saying "put $4k into it and sell it for $18k easy, its a no brainer" if it were such a no brainer why hadnt he done it already? lol. Although honestly i do think the collectible third gens (5-speeds, L98s, G92s, etc) will bring good money eventually, maybe even better than the second gens cause i think more of these cars got trashed than the 2nd gens, and thats one of the major points that drove the value of the 2nd gens up. So many Burt Reynolds wanna-bes took a car that started out as common and drove it towards extinction haha. I think these ones had it worse so their time will come when they see value, but its definitely not right now. Right now you could find twice the car this guy has for $2k, maybe even with loads of documentation (i did it a few weeks ago for $1800)

He might be right, 'cause technically he never used the "$" sign. Maybe he was referring to Hong Kong dollars. Last time I was in HK, the exchange rate was around $7.7HK to $1. With that exchange rate he would be close to correct.

Re: Restore this car and sell it for $100,000!

No but i saw that one during my search. Its a clean car, was wondering if the owner was a member. But the mods werent for me so i kept looking. The one i ended up getting was a Louisville/Jeffersonville posting, it wasnt up too long and the picture made the car look very dirty and weathered. After contacting the guy i got updated pics and the car looked a lot cleaner in those. Turned out to be an original L98 with only radio, ignition, and exhaust as far as mods. Had all the documentation from the dealer up to now, dealer tags, window sticker, brochures, receipts, and lots of extra parts (a spare of every panel except quarters) so for $1800 i couldnt pass it up. I believe that other 88' with the ram air hood and billet grill is still up for sale, clean car for anyone in the market. However theres also a very clean black 91 or 92 L98 hardtop for $4k that would be a very nice investment for anyone in the market in the Indy area

Ah here is the 88' you mentioned
http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/2961716887.html

Here is the 92' i mentioned, good deal assuming its an original L98 Z28, would want to check the numbers though because of that RS grill and Iroc style hood

I have some pics of mine on my profile here, its not a gem just yet but i'll get it there

Re: Restore this car and sell it for $100,000!

There is quite a few 3rd gens popping up here in the Louisville area on CL. I really don't Want to post "the one" that I've been watching since last August but here it is.
http://louisville.craigslist.org/cto/3029521397.html

Not in the best shape, but I need something with a learning curve, plus it's the same age as my fiancé so I plan to get antique tags for it to poke fun at her. I went and checked it out on the coldest day of The year in february(thought my face went numb) and it did crank over last I heard. Sorry to hijack and derail your thread, but is it in too bad of shape to warrant purchasing? Fuel pump and tranny need work, as does a little exterior and interior work. Nothing a little sweat and hard work can't fix right?!

Looks to be in pretty good shape for the money, at least everythings there (looks like that includes the original radio too). And being an 87 with a 350 it'll be loaded to the gills with all the performance stuff including the G92 3.45 9-bolt. Seems like a good deal for the price, just be sure to check the under side of the car with a fine-tooth comb, if its been sitting in a yard for any length of time odds are rust will start attacking the bottom. Id say if youre looking for something to fix up its a great start and will pay off once its done

wow sounds like you got a deal on yours for 1,800 with all the extra parts and documentation. that other black 88 we were talking about, i ended up buying the "iroc" sticker/decal set from the guy who just sold that roughly a month ago. he was going to put it on that car, but never got around to putting them on before it sold.

Yeah Eric And I settled on 900 but I got overwhelmed with school to deal with it at the time. Yeah he posted it last August at 1200 bucks and I emailed him asking why it wouldn't start, and he was telling me basically what sounded to be a bad fuel pump. It is a Norwood car too.
