Anyone ever see/own an 82 with an 8 track?
I was reading through the White Book last night (I will not admit why...you all think I'm crazy at this point ), and I noticed in 82 they still offered an 8 track, with about 4,400 takers.
Anyone ever have one? Has a pic of one? Just curious...

Several at the dealer where I lived. The salesman there ordered them as dealer stock at the time. I kind of laughed at the time because the medium was all but gone by '82 but GM stayed with it as an RPO.

I saw one in a 82 Z28 a few years back at a car show. It caught my eye because it was the first one I have ever seen in a thirdgen from the factory.
The adult owner said it still worked and had a few old tapes for it. As I recall it was a Delco Head Unit combined with a AM/FM radio.

I hope the 8 track players that were built back then lasted longer than most of the 8 track tapes. Half the 8 track tapes I owned at that time got eaten up by the tape player! They were notorious for destroying tapes. I'm not sure if the tapes were just bad or was it the players of the day?

Thanks for the info, guys. I was born in '80, so 8 tracks are just a little before my time. My dad is an audio geek like myself, and he hated 8 tracks as well. When I was growing up he had a little, stand-alone 8 track player with 2 speakers in his home office. I remember he kept a butter knife next to it, for when he had to "go save a damn tape."

1982 was the last year 8-track tapes were sold in most stores, bought
my last new 8-track that year:Steve Miller band"Abracadabra"
never seen an 8-track player in a thirdgen, but did get one from a 1983
oldsmobile-player was made in late-82,so likely original

A guy at the Charlotte, NC Auto Fair last spring was selling players and tapes. Some of the tapes were Brand New, still in the cellophane wrapper. Talk about a step Back in Time!
He said he buys a lot of them at yard sales.

I saw a factory 8-track player in a 77 z28 at a car show. It was the original owner. The window sticker priced the player at $400, which is lot of dough on a $4000 car when new. Didn't know you could get an 8-track on a third gen. It's very cool to see period correct technology. 20 years from now, IPod & Bluetooth are gonna look dated compared to the microchip sewn into your tricep.

I would love to see an 82 With an 8 track in it, but so far I never have. Cool info none the less.

That's truly some legendary stuff. Not sure I have any of my 8-tracks left. Think my parents had some Glen Campbell and Helen Reddy, mine were mostly K-Tel disco. LOL!
