1987 Dual fan, auxiliary fan relay original location.

Hello everyone, I've been trying to figure out where the second auxiliary coolant fan relay was located originally for a 1987 Camaro with dual fans (TPI IROC-Z). This relay controls the temperature switch operated, fan. I know the computer-A/C controlled fan is by the radiator support on the front right hand corner near the battery, but never knew where the second relay was mounted. I've seen low milage, unmolested cars on Ebay of the same year, but could never pin point where that relay was mounted. Since various PO's of my car had hacked the wirining harness for the coolant fans, I have since restored it back to how it was originally and not rigged! I'm trying to restore this car back to its original status, and wanted to know where this relay is mounted. If you can please post pics, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you everyone.

Re: 1987 Dual fan, auxiliary fan relay original location.

If you don't find photos, you can do what I just did on my same year/engine: install them on the left side of the radiator. Mine were completely missing with the exception of a broken push tab from where one relay used to be. Underneath, there was another hole, so I mounted them on top of each other. I'm sure it wasn't the original way, but it still gives a clean stock appearance.

Re: 1987 Dual fan, auxiliary fan relay original location.

Thanks for the advice, I have the computer-A/C controlled fan relay on its original location, the front-right radiator fan support. I have this auxiliary relay mounted on the uni-body sub-frame near the engine. It looks clean and original, but as usual I'm trying to be factory correct as possible in trying to find this location. I have always tried finding this location in other people's cars, but as usual the fan wiring harness were either hacked or modified. Let alone, trying to find another person with a 1987 Camaro is quite rare where I live. Again thank you for your suggestions.

My (FIREBIRD) relays were on the Right side behind the headlights... You have a battery over there, so I am not sure if they put it on the Left side... Both Relays were there.

Re: 1987 Dual fan, auxiliary fan relay original location.

You are correct for the Firebird locations, as the fan wirning harness was slightly different. I have seen the later 88-92 relay locations, but 1987 seems to be unique, being it's the first and last year to use square coolant fan relays as opposed to the 88-92 oval fan relays. Again thank you for your help.
