Just Bought 1991 GTA 5 Speed
Probably didn't get the best of deals on this ($2900) but I wanted this car because I know its a 1 of 164. It being black with a new black leather interior didnt hurt either. Its a high mileage (314K) car that was owned by a medical rep that was on the road all the time using this car. He stopped driving the car years ago then sold it after he started to restore it and lost interest. Engine has been rebuilt once before. The guy really took care of the car though. It actually is in better shape than my 88K mile GTA Convertible. In any case he began to strip the paint to go ahead and redo the outside like the inside but I found it mid way thru and bought it.
Ill get some pics up tomorrow.

Ok here is a video I just shot. I don't know how the audio is because I just done this right off the cuff with my android and hurriedly.
Amorget I have not even thought about checking for that but I will tomorrow.
Interesting, didn't think they were that uncommon... I have one, too
Does yours have the N10 dual cats and the 3.42 rear end ratio?

Nice It's a t-top car right ? I'm not sure how many if any came in hardtop with the M5, if your going to do some basic mods first thing you should do is put on the Flowmaster 80's Series 3" with the chrome tips with an angle cut.

Or if you want the car to sound good, run pretty much any other muffler

Exhaust note preference is subjective, just like ice cream flavours.
My son's LB9, 5 speed, 3.45 axle, 3" Flowmaster catback GTA with the cruise engaged at 55 mph in 4th gear sounds like an offshore speedboat. If you like that kind of sound.

Whatever you do, do not stick big ugly farm truck tips out the back of this car.
Not a good look for these cars at all.

in the video you question if its stock exhaust. Mine is and sounds exactly like it.
91 had less GTAs in general but wow what a rare bird.. worth the money you put in it over time I believe. maybe 20 years from now.. but this would be worth a full restore.

Re: Just Bought 1991 GTA 5 Speed
It will not stop raining here in hot lanta! In any case I just have to say that as much as I love my convertible GTA it is just a blast to drive the 5-speed. Wow it is just a bunch of fun even if it is wet. I have been trying to keep composed because I haven't gotten it registered yet (no tags)! Just got the insurance binder from Grundy today so Ill go tomorrow to get my emissions and tags, then I'm all set.
First order of business is to sand the surface rust off and get some primer on the bare metal. Then in a month or so I will be painting it at my fathers shop. Im a little nervous about this because its been since highschool since Ive painted a car. Ive kept in practice in my line of work with the paint gun though since my business is piano restoration. But cars are a little different to say the least. We shall see. Maybe Ill do a play-by-play video workup of the paint job if anyone is interested.
Still the M5 Im lovin it!!!

Re: Just Bought 1991 GTA 5 Speed
The M5 + 3.42 rear end ratio makes a HUGE difference in the seat of the pants feeling of the car. I've driven a 3.08 M5 single cat GTA on a test drive right after my 305 M5 dual cat 3.42 Formula and the GTA felt a lot slower than the Formula. I passed on that one and am glad I did because it meant I got the one I currently own.

I actually think I will leave the exhaust stock. I actually sounds pretty darn mean in my opinion as it is. Its loud enough that you can hear it well when you get on it just a little and then when you are cruising its quiet enough that it doesn't get on your nerves over time. Its the best of both worlds as far as I'm concerned.
If I wanted to have anything different it would be to have a slight-medium lope from the exhaust but being that the car is all original and it sounds this good I'm leaving it like it is.
Jason how do you like that ZR1? I was telling my wife I wanted one of those before I came across this car. I will get a Corvette in the next year or two but I do not know if I will get a ZR1, a C6 Zo6, or base C7. Depends on how much money I save up and how satisfied I am with these two in the meantime. As it stands now I am pretty content in waiting and saving up the $$$s.

I absolutely love the ZR-1. I have had several over the last 10 years or so and couldn't imagine being without one. There is just something about the LT-5 that is addictive, especially with the B&B exhaust. The C-4 ZR-1 just seems to have more of a real "soul" than the other cars you mentioned. If you get a chance, read the book "The Heart of the Beast" by Anthony Young about the development of the ZR-1 and you will be hooked. You can find them on Amazon for about $20.

I think we all want a ZR1 I've wanted a C4 vette for years but they were always too expensive and I never wanted to use it as a daily driver and I knew I wouldn't be able to afford it back then so I'm hoping in the next 4-5 years to get my own 90-92 ZR1.

FOUND THE SPID!!!!
This decoder seemed to have everything I needed.
http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=30
The RPO decoder on the GTA Source Page was missing a few things but I found them on the other site including the explanation of the R6P option which is a package below.
R6P - (19??-1990) CONTROL, SALES ITEM NO. 15, (1991-1992) PERFORMANCE PACKAGE, G92, N10, J65, KC4
I could not get the RPO decoder to work for this site. It looks like my car originally had cloth seats.

Re: Just Bought 1991 GTA 5 Speed
Why do you think you originally had cloth seats? AQ9 is leather seats/interior trim.
I was thinking that meant cloth seats.
AQ9 - SEAT, FRONT BUCKET PASS, DRIVER RECLINE
Now that I go back and look again. Im confused. I thought AQ9 was the code for the fancy articulating "Ultima" GTA seats.
I thought leather was
192 - TRIM COMBINATION, LEATHER, BLACK
