R7U engine special part?
Hi, I'm owner of a 1991 camaro R7U all original and never raced. BUT, the engine broken this summer, and not rebuildable. (1 cylinder destroy)
So, I just want to put another 305 from same year era, but I want to know if is a special engine with different cam, crank.....etc. Can I take a bloc from another car/truck and bolt on everything (TPI and sensor), and it will be the same engine....or is better to install the cam and other part from the factory?
I'm looking for a fast and cheap repair.
Option 2: I have a chevy 400 rebuild and modified ready. But, I see on the net, is not easy engine to run with TPI and the T5 tranny?
What do you think?

Nothing to special about it. Use the same year performance TPI 305 and all will be the same.

I did the plant upgrade in St. Catherines a couple of years ago. Spoke with a fellow that was involved with the engines. Thats what he told me. Was kind of glad that I was trying to save a piece of history

Re: R7U engine special part?
I actually have 2 spare engines that were never installed in cars. If these motors ever had issues the teams weren't allowed to fix them. They'd have to pull them out and put a new motor in.
If anyone with an r7u car is wanting to purchase a motor, I would be willing to part with 1
