My brown 1987 Trans am Gta?
Hello, I was wondering if someone can help me out. I have always wanted a trans am Gta and have been looking around for sometime. I finally found one and it's a Brown Gta, i have only seen red, white, and black ones. I bought it for $4350.00. im not much of a mechanic so im not sure if it was a good purchase. no digital dash, has the 5.7 with 130,000 miles, not sure about the trans. it does run though. It has brown Gta emblems and Gta wheels. cant' find the spi label anywhere.... its a 1987.

I don't know much about it, but it is a handsome color combo...paint / interior / rims.

Re: My brown 1987 Trans am Gta?
The 1987 GTA did have the available color known as Dark Russet (Brown) with an RPO code
68U. It was not available after 1987 on the GTAs, thus making it a 1 year only on the GTA.
The SPID sticker is located on the inside wall of the center console. Open the center console lid and remove the cassette holder, if equipped, and the black/white sticker will be on the wall. If it's not, then the sticker may have been removed. There is no known replacement for an SPID sticker and their contents.

The Paddle mirror was an option for the 1987 GTA's (RPO Code DD9) but early in production (January 1987) they canceled them and put standard aero mirrors on the rest of them. No one knows for sure but its believed the first 50-200 GTA's had them. I have a Paddle mirror Trans Am GTA myself (built October of 1986) thats flame red with red interior.

Re: My brown 1987 Trans am Gta?
The DD9 was standard part of the Y84 package, initially, for 1987 and not an optional equipment. The list of equipment included with the Y84 package in 1987 was small, allowing some pretty stripped down 1987 GTAs, but the DD9 mirrors was one of those equipment items initially included.

Classy looking GTA !
Have you pulled out your Front & Rear Seats to look for the Build Sheet ?
If it's still there, it will give you all of your RPO code info.
?? Did they still use Build Sheets in 1987 ??

well, I took off the center console and no sticker, I also looked in the little lock department in the back panel and nothing there. I took out the seats and there was no build sheet.

I found the build sheet for my car under the carpet. Right under where the back seat would be.

Re: My brown 1987 Trans am Gta?
since I took off the center console, I accidentally broke one of the power window switches. Reading comments about how rare the car is, now I am kind of scared to touch the Gta lol. Like I Said I am not really a mechanic and I am afraid I will mess this beautiful car up. Now I dont know where this orange cable connects too!!! looked for like an hour around the shifter trying to figure it out.

Nice GTA! I like the combo! Also My car is also an 87, the build sheet for mine is under the carpet where your feet would go behind the drivers seat. However it is held in with some kinda 2 way tape...

Re: My brown 1987 Trans am Gta?
Hi mkpoker88, I know this thread is 2 years old, but i just purchased an 87 GTA with the DD9 mirrors on it too. Your car is beautiful! Did you order the invoice from GM? Whee was yours sold?
I just got the dealer invoice from GM on my car because i wanted to know if it was sold in the US making it either one of 50 or 200 or a Canadian car which would have been several thousand.
Mine was sold in Atlantic City, NJ. Mine is Flame Red Metallic and has the 305/5-speed with T-tops, analog gauges, premium sound package and tan cloth interior. I'm in the process of cleaning it up and getting it all ready for next show season.

Re: My brown 1987 Trans am Gta?
Way back when I had an aquarium service company in Miami and one of my customers had a GTA with this color....and it was a convertible. I always thought the brown was a little strange but it was certainly a nice looking car and unique.

That is a very rare and gorgeous color! You got a good deal on it I would say! You are better off without the digital dash board they were VERY problematic back in the day!
