So the data set for 1990 is complete? That's good to know - will make the numbers that much better!
AFAIK yes, 1990 Compnine is all there. Every reliable source has the same total, and compnine has that total too... helps being a 1/2 year of production.
Enjoy that car...I had an '89 the same color years ago, as an LB9/A4 version. Came in on trade at my old job and I picked it up for $1,000 in 2002 with 105k on it. Didn't have it long...every time I drove it, something broke Grad school was more important back then than the Firebird was!

You should be ostracizing me for the fact that 4 years ago at this time, I owned 3 TPI third gens with under 35,000 miles on them....and now I own zero
It is funny though to think I've owned all the fuel injected V8 combos offered except an LO3/A4. At least I know what I want now...
LB9/M5!!! I'm thinking once I get my 2 car lift, I might even get 2...a GTA/TA/Formula and, uhm...a convertible? Another IROC? Funny to think how over the years all I wanted was an IROC...and after owning so many third gens, I really do like the Pontiac side of things better
Maybe I should've kept my IROC, but I don't have sellers remorse, seeing as how it went back to the family I got it from, and they treat it like gold. The grey color combined with the automatic made me want something a little brighter, with a stick...

I had the car in town at my mechanic's shop yesterday to check a few things and to take a look at the underside - WOW is this car in nice shape for Connecticut!
Tightened the clamp on the bottom of the water pump and that took care of the leak, changed the oil & gave it a grease. Wish I had the end link bushing kit because those need to get swapped, but I can do that easily on the trailer. With a cleaning underneath it would look as nice as it does on top - but....I'm not that guy.
Left it on the trailer in the barn last night, heading to my body shop today for paint.
The LH0 used the MD8 trans and the L03 used the M39 trans..
MD8 is the 700R4 code. I mean it's literally cast into the side of the 700R4 transmission. Are you saying all 3.1Ls in 1990 were autos?

D5S Unknown 486 - I have no idea what it is, but I would bet it has to do with the rear axle... That is the exact same number of 3.42 axles. I am thinking it has to do with the gear set for the speedo.
D8G SENSOR (D8G) 1,093 - Something to do with the transmission. Either speedo sensor, might be the shift sensor.
I believe these are option groups... I just don't remember what they are right now...

You're close on D5S/D8G. GM used a variety of D?? codes to designate speedometer gears and sensors. You'll see the codes when you look up the parts in the catalog. Remember the SPID and subsequently the RPO codes on it are all about getting the right service parts. The exact definition for some of these are in the service manuals.
I'd have to dig a bit deeper than I have time for right now, but the R?? codes generally have to do with pricing. Not so much an option package but more along the lines of a price break when certain options are ordered together.
I still think y'all are far too trusting of Compnine figures and facts. There is an awful lot of room for error in their data. Sometimes you guys are taking various numbers and trying to use arithmetic to determine the true number of an option combination produced, when there's so much margin for error in the numbers that by the time you combine them the result has a high probability of being incorrect. In a way you might as well be pulling a number off the top of your head for all it matters.
There was 6 LH0/MB1 Firebirds and 5 LH0/MB1 Camaros in 1990... I have never seen one, nor do I care if I ever do, but it is interesting indeed.
Yes I agree that it is possible to put too much faith in Compnine data, However, the production numbers they have for 1990 Firebird and 1990 Camaros has been spot on to every other piece of reliable information I currently have. 91-92 not so much as it is about 95% complete. I just wish they had anything of real value for 1989...
I got to spend a few hours in the barn today and rebuilt the headlight motors.....they needed it! $60 and a few tools and we were done! BTW - I used the Top Down Solutions kit.
The teeth can fail. GM used a clutch type of system to link the output shaft of the headlight motor to the plastic gear. Three lobes on the shaft ride against three plastic bushings which also ride inside the gear. The plastic bushings often fail too. The Parmesan looking debris could be from the teeth or the bushings.
I'm pretty sure the cornmeal stuff is the three bushings, the gear would still turn with the **** and probably could have been re-used but it wasn't worth putting back together to try.

This was the total number of LB9/MM5 cars made...
The LH0 used the MD8 trans and the L03 used the M39 trans..
The V6 also used the 3.42 axle, but in 1990 there was only 6 of those made (not like anyone want's one)
I know this is an older thread, but I bought an almost identical car, a 1990 Formula just this past year, with everyone of these options, except mine is red. Paid about the same amount of money. Our VINs are only about 150 units apart!
