Pretty car.
I love that term...peanut cam. I wonder where that got started? I never heard that before I joined this forum and started reading up on 3rd gens.
The '85 LB9...non-peanut cam, right? Was it the old L69 cam?

Yup! And the '87-'89 5 speeds got the L98 cam, which is similar to the L69 cam. Actually all the '90-'92 LB9s got the L98 cam too - just the Lo-Po ones those years got the L03 exhaust.

Thanks chazman. A dizzying array of parts combinations over the years.
Sorry to take us off topic. Now....back to this IROC.

All stock cams in our cars were "peanut cams" if u ask me honestly. The Lg4 and L03 cams just being the worse of the bunch received this term. 85 Lb9 cam was the leftover flat tappet L69 cam. The L98 cam was pretty docile with what a max lift of 430 and duration 207 or something?

I saw that car...pretty car. Wonder what it'll end up going for. Personally, after owning my peanut cammed 86 TA, which was beautiful but slloooooww....I will not be buying another LB9/A4 car.
Great cruiser...but when my ex wife was in the car, and I floored it for the first time...and she looked over at me and said "that's it?" Yeahhh...

Re: 8K mile, '88 IROC-Z
My LO3/M5, conversely, fell on its face after 4,000. So did my LB9/A4. Stick versus auto makes a huge difference with an LB9 because of that cam...

God that LO3 was a dog! After 3 years of owning my 91 LO3 RS I just got bored of it. Even though it was only 20hp more, my 84 L69 felt way more powerful.

Interesting that the market is snapping up these low mile cars for no reason other than the low miles. Higher prices are being paid for LO3 equipped cars than L98's or even 1LE's with normal higher miles.
This 3rd gen market is evolving a little too fast, buyers are making mistakes.

Re: 8K mile, '88 IROC-Z
Wow, I'm kind of surprised at how high the bids are so far. At this moment it is at $15,100. Beautiful car and super low miles and all, but this is just a common, milk toast, small cam, auto, 2.73 geared, disc/drum, IROC-Z.

$15,900 now with 16 hours left...
This is 350 money for a 305. Wonder what it ends up going for? Reserve still isn't met. I'd be pretty damn happy right now with that, if I owned it...

Re: 8K mile, '88 IROC-Z
I would've been happy with that. I sold the same thing as a grey 25k mile L98 for $15,000 last summer. I'd much prefer my car at $15,000 than this thing at $15,900. Mine was sluggish enough even with the L98...2.77 gears killed that car off the line.

Re: 8K mile, '88 IROC-Z
honestly most people who put there cars on ebay with reserves have there friends bid them up cause it dont cost them anything so who knows if the 15,900 was even real ..

Re: 8K mile, '88 IROC-Z
Actually, with 23,000 miles on it, I put new pads all the way around on my IROC in 2014.
It isn't that they were worn. The pad surface was so glazed from age, the car flat-out didn't stop well at all anymore. I bled the brakes thinking it was an old fluid issue, and that didn't help at all.
Put fresh EBC pads all the way around, and it stopped like it was supposed to...

Re: 8K mile, '88 IROC-Z
Well his $25,000 CL price is a pipe dream.
$18,500 on eBay? He might find someone. Its not worth it to me. I'd pay $18,500 all day long if it was a 350 or an LB9 5 speed. The color and mileage are perfect.
But I can't see an LB9/A4 combo being worth more than $14,000...and even then, respectfully, I still wouldn't buy it.
