Price Check : NOS Floor Mats

I've got this set of NOS front floor mats. They're the style with ridged backing, not the rubber teeth. 1" square GM logo, black in color, still in the opened but intact paper envelope. GM Part # 998825. 1985-1989 production floor mats, not Goodwrench, not aftermarket. Goes without saying, but they're unused, clean, no wear.

I've had them for at least a decade. Got them off Ebay for a car I no longer have, I don't really have a use for them and just came across them the other day... Thinking about listing them on Ebay or the classifieds and letting someone who can appreciate them have them, but don't want to kick myself later for letting them go below fair market value.

So what are they worth?

Not sure but If you figure out a price, I may be interested.

Odd that there isn't a GM square on the pass side mat

Re: Price Check : NOS Floor Mats

It looks like the ACC reproductions are about $100 a pair. There's a thread from a year ago about a set on Ebay with a BIN of $300, but the Ebay listing is long gone. So whats a ridiculous price, and what's a fair price? I don't want to start a bidding war, but I'd like to get a fair price so I can funnel those proceeds back into other projects.

Re: Price Check : NOS Floor Mats

I'd be willing to pay $250 if they were the right ones for my car in the colour I wanted. I'm sure you can find the right buyer for that colour in those years.

I ended up getting the corrected contour molded reproductions and buying a set of junk mats of eBay to steal the GM squares off of. Even then the GM squares are slightly different colours from years in the sun.

I wish I could have just found the right set and saved myself the trouble.

If I needed black I’d probably pay $300 for a set of NOS wouldn’t be surprised to see them on eBay for more though..

Luckily my Gray originals are in good shape and come out for shows or big cruise nights..

Oh man if I had a nicer car I’d be all over these. I always prefer black mats in any color interior as they don’t show every last bit of dirt all the time. Myself I searched for ages to find the best match to the dash logo.

That's the thing, I don't know. I don't think 99% of the NOS parts listed in the classifieds here, or on Ebay are worth the prices people are asking, but the parts seem to sell regardless. The value is high enough that I'm uncomfortable trying to put a number on them.

Some sell, some don't.

I've had crazy assed priced parts on my ebay watch list literally for years. YEARS! In the end, the seller needs to want to sell their parts in order for them to be sold.

I'd say $200-250. Too bad you don't have the rear mats, otherwise I'd probably say $100-200 higher, considering all the ridiculous prices I've seen on NOS parts lately.

Not to steal Drew's thunder, but here they are. I believe them to be the only new, unused, blue, GM mats on the planet.

Its funny, back in the early 90's I bought several sets of these new. I came across a receipt a while back that I am pretty sure was for a set of red ones. I'll have to see if I can find that & post a picture. I remember looking at it thinking I should have bought 10 sets of every color

I could be convinced to sell them. They'd be stupid expensive. I like money, so if someone wanted to trade a pile of money for a pair of NOS mats, they could email me at predatorman at hotmail dot com, and make an offer.

Digging through my receipt archives tonight & found one slip from 1991 with matts on them. Not sure what color these were though?
I'm guessing gray as I bought a few pairs of those back in the day.
Wouldn't you like to order a few pairs for what I paid 27 years ago? If only we would have known......

Pretty sure this is another pair I bought. different kind of part number, same price range though.
I'm about done looking for tonight. I have a pile of saved slips. Kinda fun to look though them actually.

Re: Price Check : NOS Floor Mats

$25 is about what they really should cost. I never get around to selling mine because I wouldn't feel right about asking what I think they're probably "worth" in the classifieds here. Paypal and Ebay don't deserve a percentage either. I won't give them away because I paid a lot initially, and I've kept them nice... I'll probably keep them stored away for a rainy day, but I could use the money. Kind of sick of all the parts and projects sitting around, need to sell a few of them. Hmm...

Re: Price Check : NOS Floor Mats

Well, the $25 on my old invoices is like looking at a 60's muscle car invoice at an msrp of $3500. While it's fun to reminisce, It's a whole different time now.

I have a few parts for my cars that I paid some good money for. One part in particular I'm embarrassed to admit how much I paid. 2X what it was worth 8 years ago & its still not worth what I paid today. But....... I would buy it again. Not because these parts are worth all the extra cash, but because they are sometimes just so darn hard to find & are sometimes the missing piece of the puzzle.

If those GM matts where relativiely common to find NOS I would say they would be worth $200. But, they are not. I'm going to guess they are worth at the very least $250 if you were just looking to move them. But I could see $300 & maybe more for the right car?

Your not forcing anyone to buy them, & I wouldn't find it all offensive for you to ask what what they are worth so you have zero regrets if you do ever sell them. That's got to be a big part of the equation too?
Some cars deserve floor mats like that & they are one of the first things to show wear on cars. Heck look at those slips, I was replacing them when my f-bodies were 4 years old.

I by no means posted those pictures to put a sense of value on them. I was just posting because of my missed opportunities to buy a dozen of them when they were $25.00 a pair

Re: Price Check : NOS Floor Mats

I'm with you there... I remember having my parts guy look up all kinds of things for my Formula back in 2000-2003 and while a lot of what I was looking for was discontinued, there were other things I scoffed at the price, but now they're unobtainium. For a period of time, it was no big deal to buy all new switches for the interior, turn signal lenses, Firebird center consoles & radio pods, cup holders... The list could go on for days.

I sort of go back and forth between good used parts and NOS parts. When I know the part is going to go somewhere it's not front and center on display, or where it'll just get worn anyway, I'll usually go with a good used piece. That's kind of how I ended up with a set of guilty conscience floor mats. I figure I can put a whole new ACC rug in the car every few years for less than another set of NOS floor mats would cost, so I ended up not using the mats. LOL Now they're enough of an oddity that I really can't justify using them.

I think everyone is on the same page about what they're worth. When someone really needs them, and offers me a Powerball Jackpot for them, I'm sure they'll be happy with them and I can retire to my new private island.

Re: Price Check : NOS Floor Mats

I don't see any posts by a moderator of this forum informing you that you broke any rules.

The reason you might see that here is because many people do searches for key words and respond to a post that they didn't realize is old. We've had 13 year old posts brought back from the dead by someone asking if they still had the parts.

Re: Price Check : NOS Floor Mats

The blue mats Chaz has/had aren't 3rdgen mats. Just sayin'. Granted, he didn't say they are, simply calling them "new, unused, blue, GM mats," which is exactly what they are: universal GM floor mats. They're good for their GM logos, for feet, for making an interior look better, and maybe for making it smell newish again, but not for originality. Although, after all these years in his possession, they might make an interior smell like Chaz.

But there's also another excellent talking point in this 5-year-old thread: PRICING. The prices some of our own "family" members ask for parts in the TGO classifieds can be quite unreasonable.

Like Drew stated about himself, I also don't have the conscience to put high prices on things, even though I could probably get crazy money for some of them.

When I list parts, they're priced to sell, so our own brothers and sisters get good deals, even if those parts are considered "rare." Unfortunately, that opens the door for buyers to try to flip them for the insane profits that I probably could've gotten for them, but oh well...

To me, it's about getting parts into good homes AND out of mine: WIN-WIN. If I've had them on my shelves for years, then they're "inventory," and their value has depreciated. I've survived their purchase, and I'll continue to survive without the big profits I could probably get from some of them.

Regarding reviving old threads, last year someone hit me up privately to ask if I still had a couple of parts that I'd advertised, probably, 6-8 years earlier. And I did. And as rare 3rdgen parts go, these were among the rarest. I've seen them advertised for BIG money, sellers consciously raping potential buys: our own membership. But this member, gambling that I'd still have them, not only got them, but also got them for original retail: cheap. Was I out anything? Of course not. And he got something he needed, nearly impossible to find, for a fair price.

Is this an old thread? Yes. And the items are probably long gone. But you never know...

As for pricing, to quote an old TV commercial, "parts is parts." And for those of us who have them to offer, they're nothing more than depreciated inventory. If someone hopes to fund his retirement off of his parts sales, or just a trip to Vegas, then ebay is the place. TGO should be the place for good deals, IMO.

Do unto others, right? And I'm not a religious person, not even close! Vegas, baby!

Another option that would be considerably less money is taking a look at the ACC cut pile mats available at Rockauto for under $100 shipped. They are supposedly the same cut as the factory mats and the only differences are no GM rubber logo in the front mats and an improved rubber backing to reduce sliding around. The Essex style of thicker material may have more colors.

The only issue is trying to find that blue, I know they have many of the factory colors as I am going to order up the grey ones soon and I already have some grey GM mark of excellence squares to glue on the fronts.

Mind telling me where you got the squares to glue to them? Exactly what I am looking for. I figured someone would be making these with a 3D printer, but had not seen them up to this point.

Your best bet would be a junkyard as the rubber GM mark of excellence is on almost any old GM car from the 80s-90s. Then yank it off and dye to match if needed. I found someone on eBay selling old floor mats that were worn out and just bought the mats as they were cheap enough around $20. I can send you the seller info if your interested? They had a few more mats for even less but would require dying the squares.

You have a great idea with the 3D printer but ppl may not reproduce as it’s a copyrighted design and I heard that is why ACC doesn’t use that in the mats they sell.

Just an update. Sold those blue mats about a year and a half ago. I think I got $400 for them.

Still have my NOS, in the GM box, Crossfire hood insulation. I had it sold, but cost to ship across the country was mind numbing. Like $400-$1,000. So I still have it. Local pick up only from now on.
