Re: Radio Collection New Units Added

The closest one I have meeting your criteria is a 4th gen unit. AM/FM CD with an aux input jack.
There is a member in Hawaii that was interested in this one and was supposed to send me a down payment on it with Christmas coming up and has not as of yet. So I guess he goes in second seat.

Re: Radio Collection New Units Added

It has a newer CD mechanism like pic 1
Pic 2 is the first generation of mechanisms. Avoid these like the plague!

Re: Radio Collection New Units Added

If I send you mine, can you fix the on/off switch?
sometimes it'll go on, sometimes it won't.
it's definately the push button.

I'm trying to keep the car all original.

Re: Radio Collection New Units Added

The one I have, I replaced the bulbs in this one and colored them red and infact everyone of these models I have seen have burned out bulbs. Factory put in 12 volt bulbs and with the engine running there is 14.5 volts contributing to bulb failure. Radio and CD works great. Pic shows cd playing. Yours for $50 including shipping.

Re: Radio Collection New Units Added

my radio with the 20 pin connector. There was an extra connector in the car, that was NOT connected to the radio. IIRC, it was a 2 wire connector. What is this for ??

Re: Radio Collection New Units Added

Reading thru this post, I see you do repairs, in particular, I see you can replace the power switch. Mine does what one other guy said his does, pushing the power button sometimes works, but most time does not. Other than the shipping costs, what would it cost to replace the power button? Thanks for your info.

Re: Radio Collection New Units Added

It's only a $20 charge to replace the switch. I have to take the radio apart about 70% of the way just to get to the 1 screw that holds the power switch in.

Thanks for getting back to me, I will pull the radio out after the Holidays and send you a pm for your address and other details to ship it out when the time come. This thing has been truly annoying and I found that if I spray some electronic contact cleaner into the switch, I get it to turn on and I don't dare turn it off.

Re: Getting Rid Of My Radio Collection

I've got at least a dozen or so mid-eighties/nineties decks that all need something.

I gotta' be honest and say $200 for a tape deck is rich for my blood right now. No offense; I probably wouldn't pay $200 even if the deck was a Functional Berlinetta EQ deck. Since my current GTA radio works and is just missing a backlight; I'll probably end up gambling on 3-4 E-Bay units and hope to get lucky.

Thanx for the prompt reply.

John,
It is not so much that the cassette works, it is the fact that these radios are 25 years old and were only made between 86-89 makes them hard to come by in good condition. 7 out of 10 of these I find need the cassette repaired and solder joints reworked.
I am still interested in what you have. Please send pics and info to rsmith5515@aol.com

85 roc,
The closest thing I have right now Camaro-ish is a Delco-Bose unit. I can change the CDM so you won't need amplified speakers. It does work even the cd which is a second gen cd. $180 shipped, LMK if you want an aux input or not.

Re: Getting Rid Of My Radio Collection

Believe me - I hear Ya' !!

I had a radio tech rebulding decks for me a couple years back and the cassette was always the big problem & the balance/ fadar were almost always re-soldered because the circuits were bad. Had to give it up because of the lack of interest in a $200 + cassette deck, but that goes back a few years and your right; decent 80's radios are no longer "easy" to come by.

I'll see what I can do about getting some detials for Ya' on the decks I've got. Got the guts to open up a Berlinetta deck to take a look around ?? It would be great to have a MP3 jack on my Berlinetta / BOSE set-up - even if it was remote mounted !

Watching your E-bay auction for the GTA deck,......... wanted to know if the antenna hole was big or small ?? ( My 88 currently has a big pin power antenna. )

Will ge glad to take a look at your Berlinetta radio for an aux possibility.
Is that one of those pedistal mount radios?

The 88 and above radios have the small antenna opening. There are adapters for that.

Re: Getting Rid Of My Radio Collection

Do you have a bose saddle wood tan driver side kick panel. I have an 87 iroc. Also, I've taken my radio apart due to the volume breaking up sometimes (I dont think it's a speaker issue because I can fix sound if I push the side of the volume **** and hold my finger there). Cleaned gunk off solder joints but They all looks ok to me! Do I have a solder issue or volume **** issue?

Re: Getting Rid Of My Radio Collection

Sorry no kick panels. From what you are describing "By pushing the side of the volume **** correcting the problem" It sounds like a worn out potentiometer in either the left/right or the volume or both. You can try some electronic cleaner and hope it works or find another radio with the same tuner/fade, vol/bal board and swap them out. Right now, I don't know if you have a 2 board radio or one with a cdm module.
Post a pic of the top and back side of the radio.
