Child seat for camaro

I read the forums and found a post or 2 about car seats from 2004 or so. We have a few vehicals (86 iroc, 06 elantra, 81 Honda 400, 07 suzuki 400, 02 kawasaki 1600), but now and then, (okay okay..., most weekends ) I goto the drag strip, and do a few passes in my stroked 350(383ci) 86 iroc. This year we have a new addition to the family, and the rear facing car seat we got for the daily driver does not fit very well in the front custom racing seats, nor the custom back seats (middle is filled with dvd/cd changer+vcr) and above the rear seats has plywood with 2x15" subs kinda in the way...

- anyways - enough showing off

I was not able to find a rear facing car seat (googled ' +camaro +"car seat" +infant +"rear facing" ' etc...) that would fit for sure... just a few "i suggest..." - and a few "might fit..."

Wondering if anyone that has little ones might have experience as to what rear facing seat would fit without having to put the front seat all the way forward? Would be nicer than having to take 2 vehicals to all the races and car shows.

Please - serious replies here or at
Code:
"a c e _ h a w k '@' h o t m a i l . c o m"
- (not trading in the wife - etc...)

Cheers,
Trev

Same here. Like me, you'll likely have to wait until your child can sit forward facing. This will be about a year (when the child's weight & age permit by law). Then mount the child-seat in the back. And you'll very likely need to also install a tether-strap anchor as well (it's required by law in most states and provinces). Older convertibles like mine are currently tether-strap exempt in Canada. Check your locals laws.

I have a couple of kids and a few cars too. When we needed car seats, we bought and drove family cars. Some things you just have to compromise.

I to could not find a regular rear facing seat. The one thing that did fit was the carrier seats where the base stays fassened into the car and the carrier unclips. That worked untill my kids were big enough to go in front facing seats. Then when the front facing seats are strapped in with the special clip for the seat belt and the tether was mounted they didn't come out for years because its such a pita to get them in and out. The only thing is you may not need the special clip if you don't have the shoulder harness. Mine did so it made it harder. The best part is that when they get a little older and can talk is that all you will hear is that they can't see anything back there.

One of the bonuses of having the vert with the rear car seat is you can open up just the rear part of the roof and "drop" the child right in. Just about the easiet in and out of any vehicle I've owned, even our minivan!
(Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Don't tell anyone I have one of those!!! )

I've got four kids and five vehicles. My youngest is in a rear facaing seat and I did the same thing. Just remove tha base and use the seatbelt on the side clips according to the mfgr instructions.
EDIT: And my wife and I REFUSE to drive/own a minivan, lol. One of my trucks is an Excursion and the other is a Navigator (I'd rather drive Ford than any make of minivan, haha)

You probley will need a convertable carseat. The seat turns around backwards for infants then frontwards for older kids. They don't lean back as far. It's ffrom 5 lbs an up. They can use them from birth till they don't need a seat anymore. If anyone is like me with no shoulder belts in the back the Britax brand seat works best. Their a little pricy though, but the best and safest on the market. A while back I posted a thread about carseats to get dimentions of the back seat. This is the only seat that the base of it is small enough to fit right down in the back seat bottom. Because of not having a shoulder belt you can not use a regular booster seat for older kids either, these seats have a 5-point harness for kids up to 65 pounds. This will solve the problem for most of us with no shoulder belts in the back & that have the law where your kids have to be almost the size of a small adult not to have to sit in a booster seat anymore.

We have the best of both worlds (own a van & Camaro). They do their job and do it well, plus better fuel mileage. And sliding doors in parking lots are way more convenient than the narrow regular doors that need room to stick out. Sliding don't take up any room. To each their own, I guess. And if we need an SUV we also have an old Jimmy with 370,000kms that just refuses to die!

Same here. Can't fit me & 4 kids in a Camaro at the same time so the Caravan is a must sometimes.

Just not enough room for 4 kids, a dog, my wife and I in a Caravan. Just got back from vacation tonight and the Excursion was packed to the celing in the cargo area. The Lincoln is for sale because it got too small for us, 14" behind the third row didn't fit luggage too well (never thought the family would outgrow a Navigator?!? haha)

Actually except the fact that thy can't see out very good my kids love the Trans Am. They are 6 and 10 and their little bodies fit just right in the seats. Almost like they were designed to fit just for kids. If i ever ask Trans Am or Explorer they always say the TA even though there is dvd's in the Explorer. These comments are strictly for comfort, not sure if ZEE28 ment safety wise. Can't see how they would be any worse that any smallish car thats around today.

If they're still in a car seat, then . . .
The safest placement for a car seat is in the rear seat; never put a child in the front seat if you can help it. Absolutely never in front of a passenger-side airbag that can't be deactivated. The middle rear seat is generally considered the safest, but most aren't LATCH compliant, so use the standard seatbelt installation for the middle seat unless your child safety seat's instructions specifically note otherwise.
Otherwise I guess it's their choice (not to many choices though in a Camaro).

My daughter can't wait to go for a ride . . .

that's quite a nice amount of pasta under the hood..

check with recaro they make sweet children seats. personally i wouldn't let a friend sit in the rear of one of these cars let alone a child but it's your genes.. rock on!

Ive got the choice of taking 2 cars to the car shows, but really - who wants to park a hyundai enlantra beside a camaro at the car show?

Anyways, i found a seat that works - it's the Cosco Touriva (got it at Wal-Mart). Part of making it fit properly includes placing foam under the seat back (rear facing - so the foam is actually closer to the front of the car) This makes it so that the passenger seat (front) can slide all the way back just about (less one "click") so that my wife can sit without her knees over her head in the front seat. (get yur mind out of the gutter now plz! )

someone was asking about wheels, and commenting on how low it is... those are 10" hydrolics (you can see the metal tubes running in the trunk to the top of each hydrolic ram in the rear, and kinda see the front right one in the shade there...) As for the wheels - they are just regular old 5 spoke wheels i got at my local tire shop - get polished ones instead of chrome - the chrome chips - polished ones can be buffed...

Minivans are for "yuppies" - as far as my wife and I are conserned. I just got rid of my Suburban (depreciating too fast). watch it with these SUVs and other luxury cars, they sure worth nothing fast... bought for $72,000 4 years ago - i was lucky to get $24,000 for it now....

we'll never own a minvan =P

Local track is not doing NHRA sanctioned races - we might have to go for 4-6 hour road trip to the next closest track so we can race for points - we're considering buying a trailer and RV now to get to the races (and for accomodations at the tracks) - we've been considering camping anyways- thanks for all the input - i found help reading this board also - lots of car seat info here!

i wanted to say to Iroctopless - totally cool pick of your kid in the camaro - my kid loves my iroc -

"i love to ride in your camaro cause it's fun and because it's blue and because it's shiney and cause everyone loves your car dad"

I will make sure to take some pictures of my little one in the new car seat so you people can see how well it fits -

Cheers,
Trev

Lol! - I just ran that past my wife -

Me: "We aughta buy a 6.1L SRT8 Charger"
Wife "No."
Me: "But, it's got 4 doors and lots of room for car seats plus it can do a respectable quarter mile"
Wife "Does it come with an oil refinery to fuel it and your camaro?"

I kinda gave up - oh well... try again later

Does the SRT8 still have the Multi-Displacement option? That would help the mileage. Plus they even have a rear DVD option (which kids love!)
I'm rooting for yeah, man!

Look forward to the seat pic. We also had to put a few rolled up towels under the car seat base in order to get it to the proper level. Plus you may want to put a towel or plastic under between the car seat and the Camaro's seat in case of any MAJOR baby accidents!!!

well - yes and no -
yeah - the charger comes with anything from a;
190 HP 2.7L v6 (SE)
250 HP 3.5L v6 (SXT)
340 HP 5.7L v8 (R/T)
350 HP 5.7L v8 (Daytona R/T)
425 HP 6.1L v8 (SRT8)
the "SRT8" is the option group that includes the 425HP 6.1L Hemi +leather +full load(ie. dvd+moonroof etc...) - so no, the "SRT8" doesnt come with optional displacement - but yes, the charger does

yeah - no eating/drinking in the car

the thing is so loud (timing gears) and vibrates/bumps so much (hydrolics ride @ around 1800-2100PSI) that for the infant - it basically puts him straight to sleep. Lucky for me thats not usually messy (less the drewel of course)

Not too worried about any messes though - that's part of having kids - nothing a person cant get cleaned up by a good detail shop. (lets face it - if you own one of these cars - you know a good detailer or you quit your job to keep your cars clean - nevermind all the chrome on the motorcycles... lol)

The truely best baby seat is the drivers seat of a Mustang or a ***** when they get smoked by a 20 year old third gen.

I mean it must be a good one I see enough of them crying in those seats.
