David T's amazing $3,500.00 seats

From an email I got today:

"Sorry for the delay in responding. The front & rear 97-2002 firebird seats
are $3500.00 Canadian. Prepaid shipping cost only is extra.
Thanks

Is this guy even being serious? I've only had my bird for about 2 months (yeah I know, huge n00b) but this just seems outrageous, unless these are ejection seats or something (did they come stock?). In the 2 weeks it took for him to respond, I found and purchased a set (front and rear) of seats from a 96 firebird on ebay - for $300 SHIPPED. Seems like I found where NOT to go when looking for parts. Anyone else have any experiences with these people?

Oh and this site is an amazing resource BTW

Re: David T's amazing $3,500.00 seats

Avoid That place at all costs. DavidT's charges way more than is reasonable or fair, and has been doing so for a long time.

most junkyards charge only about $20-30 dollars a seat, so $3500. is silly, unbelieveable and in truth some places you can buy a whole 4th gen roller for that to pull the seats and dash out of!

I have found full carbon fiber seats covered in high dollar gucci and still didnt cost $3500....LMAO. That dude must have no business...and if he does...maybe I should open a shop and sell what he does and take his customers with half price deals....LMAO.

You could easily buy two early V6 4th Gens for that price and get twice as many seats.

Re: David T's amazing $3,500.00 seats

I actually bought my car from this guy.... not the greatest deal on the car but not the worst one he has for sale.... I live about an hour south of this place... He is a rip off. Complete rip off... and he buys all the camaros he can before they hit the junk yard to try and force people to get parts. Its hardly worth going to a junkyard in edmonton just to see a camaro that is completely picked over, maybe 2.

I'm tempted to start a buisness my name being David S I could start one with the slogan.. David S' Camaro and Firebird... Remember S comes before T

Haha, same thing with me. He said sorry for the late reply but 2 power mirrors will be 275.00 each and have to be touched up and painted. Meanwhile, people on this board are selling power mirrors for 40 a set. This guy makes me laugh. How can you justify selling parts for that much of a markup....I know you have to put some bread on the table but I think his loaf is much bigger than it needs to be.

I paid $600.00 ($750.00 delivered) for the front and back, Black Leather seats out of an 02 TransAm. I found them on E-bay.

The thing is, this guy is still in business. He might bea rip off, but he charges what the market will pay. At least he is not sucking off the government, hell he might be a nice guy.

What the market will pay??? lol I sure hope nobody on this board would pay $3500 for seats or $500 for power mirrors. It's sickening to tell you the truth.

As a SLIGHT defense, $3500 Canadian dollars is only $3100 American dollars.

Hell...if people paying that much, I'd send them a 4th gen set $2000 shipped!

Re: David T's amazing $3,500.00 seats

Yup, He is the BIGGEST rip off for camaros
I live in Edmonton and it's true he basically has a camaro monopoly going.
He also charges you $80 to get a membership which entitles you to a 15% discount. HE wanted $250 for a reproduction 91-92 wing, $500 for a real one
and $2500 for 1LE brakes. I don't know who pays these prices but I wish they'd stop then maybe he'd lower the prices or better yet go out of business!

You guys need to check his "for sale" page. OMFG. This dude should be dealt with.

I had a good long laugh at almost every car that was for sale. Someone needs to tell this dude to stop hording all the third gens and start collecting corollas or any other car.

I am mad that he collects these cars.

I live 2 hours away and he is a rip-off!!! Let's just hope potential customers do a little digging first (like checking out forums like this one).

It would literally be cheaper for me to personally drive all the way from Alberta, Canada to Florida to buy the equivalent seats for $500!!!!!
And get a vacation out of it, to boot!!!!!

you guys are all idiots and ill tell you why... those are not your normal camaro seats. See in 1994 the big bob lutz him self had a batch of seats with retractable hands that were half silicone half bark, and with believe it not thanks to GM’s research and design team, ANOTHER HALF of emu skin that jerked you off during long drives using playboys latest circle jerk technology ........ Just kidding those seats are a rip. I wonder if he sells those with lube??

Re: David T's amazing $3,500.00 seats

damn...this guy needs some help

a junked up wrecked and rebuilt 1990 RS for $7500...

a rusted 81 "heavily modified" firebird sitting in snow....$15k "20k in reciets" yeah, sure, but the damn thing probably wont even start now, much less if you touch it, it might disenegrate.

98 Trans Am 'Ram Air' 6 spd fully loaded. $27,500 KBB on it same options typical mileage of 85k : $10,820
does this guy realize you could've bought it NEW for around that price? Get real the car is 9 going on 10 yrs old.

Honestly, if he was down here, he'd get reported to the BBB (dont know if it would do any good though.) that's just rediculous. Not to mention I wouldn't buy a car from up there thats exposed to the harsh elements. For the money you're going to be paying you can get a rust-free from the desert/hot areas and have it SHIPPED to your doorstep. LOL you serious candian buyers, your better off buying US and getting it shipped.

It's the same sort of situation in Ontario. There is a business called Paradise Alley that buys up all the 3rd gen f-bodies (and only the 3rd gens!). I hear they just keep out bidding the junkyards for these cars at the auctions...

Like any business, he probably bases his prices on what the consumer market is willing to pay (otherwise they'd be lower or he'd go out of business).
Now I'd like to know who these people are who are willing to pay him to get ripped off!!!!

That is some crazy shitt man! The guy is smart though...third gens are getting hard to find these days. Even here in the San Fracisco Bay Area, we have a salvage location that just deals with GM cars. They used to have an abundance of 3rd gens, but the last time I went there, there was only a handful of skeleton framed cars. I am even more fuked because I have a vert...try finding parts for this car!
$3100 for used camaro seats....wow...you might as well go order the top of the line Recaro racing seats!

Re: David T's amazing $3,500.00 seats

This could be a sign of the end times!!!

The beginning of the end for cheap parts for our cars.
The bad news . . . parts become more expensive and harder to find.
The good news . . . those that have nice rides will see them go up in value because others who want to restore them will have a harder time doing so.

A little off topic, but what's everyones feedback on this theory? Could the 3rd gens be now arriving at this point in their lives?

Some of those prices are approaching what we pay in australia for third gens,so a lot of them are way overpriced in your terms, even if it's in canadian dollars.

There's a cheap metal clip that holds the hood release cable on the front of a 2nd gen firebird. It's a DOLLAR (us) or so from classic industries - he quoted me 20 bucks on it.

Maybe one day he'll realize why he has near zero clients. The invention of the internets. Ya, about 3.5k seats...that's my limit for ls1/t56 running 4th gen for swap.

Re: David T's amazing $3,500.00 seats

Im running into a small problem, that only the likes of him can solve. I need a new(ish) radio steering wheel cancel cam. Can't find them anywhere, except the UK or this guy.

The one in the Uk was $250 +shipping, customs, etc., I think he was around 325 + shipping, customs, etc.

Its people like him, that ruin the hobby by jacking the prices way up and hoarding all the parts cars, making the hard to find parts inaccessible to the common person.

He's not a scumbag, he's actually a nice guy if you get a chance to speak with him. In my opinion he's just less than good at running a business.

Re: David T's amazing $3,500.00 seats

I've talked to the guy a few times. He's OK but just OK and knows what he's got. The problem in Canada is there's not many cars and most are either rust buckets or completely beat to s*** with no useable parts. Buying stuff from the States gets you an automatic 40% exchange on the dollar plus shipping, brokerage, etc. regardless of who you buy from. I completely agree that 3500 bucks is stupid. Not to defend the guy but maybe that's his way of saying " I can't be bothered" and he shoulda said that. I bought a tach and the console lid cover (the one that always splits) from him, both clean and working for $200 Cdn. Trying to get them here from the States would have been at least double.

He could ease up on his prices because for sure he charges too much but at least he's still in business and continues to make parts available as opposed to the guys who can't cover their costs and continually flame out.
