looking for gauges that will fit

Is there an aftermarket speedometer that will fir on the stock cable?

I really dont understand how the whole speedometer thing works, when I took the stock cluster out, I unpluged a thick cable from the back of it. The cable it self just slid on, and had a retainer clip, inside the cable was a little blue, square shaped pin/needle. Also on the back of the speedomter gauge, was 3 wires, leading to a little yellow plug, that plugged into something else.

Not even sure what the 3 wire plug ran to, to be honest

But what is the easiest solution?

Ive seen gauges at autopart stores that says, for gm, or for ford, so would the GM one just connect to the stock cable or what can i do?

or what kind of gauges wil

Any help would be appreciated

I have an 89, IROC, with a 350

First, as far as I know, there are no after market speedo heads or gauges that will fit our clusters. As a consequence you'd have to either mod what you have somehow or purchase a Covan cluster, which would allow an Autometer speedo and gauges, but which would require modification the wiring.

Second, the cable itself ("little blue, square shaped pin/needle) fits inside the black housing and runs from the rear of the speedo head to the trans.

Third, the yellow plug is the VSS (vehicle speedo sensor).
