need help with gauge cluster
I've got a few issues with my gauges going on and not sure where to start. I'm new to these cars and figure you guys would have some insight. I have an 86 IROC z28. The oil pressure and coolant temp gauge dont read correctly. They are WAY maxed out. Not even within the gauge readings..the needle goes way above any of the increments on the gauges. Not sure why, as far as I know the sensors are working correctly. I dont have an oil pressure light on...cooling fans work correctly etc. The fuel level gauge jumps around as well. When i give the vehicle gas and the rpms increase the fuel level needle jumps up to where i believe the actual fuel level is at. I just had the tank out the other day and float and sending unit all appear to be ok. The battery gauge reads low when the car is first started and then with a little gas it pops up to 13 and stays steady. The belt tension is good. Any thoughts on any of this? Thanks in advance.

Re: need help with gauge cluster
My fuel guage points straight up no matter how much gas is in it. I replaced the guage with one from a junk yard and it does the same thing. So I'm assuming the sender needs to be replaced and that has been confirmed by other members on here before. My oil pressure guage did the same thing before and I replaced the sender and that fixed it. Don't remember for sure any more but I think it was about 30 bucks.

Re: need help with gauge cluster
I have the individual gauges from my 1988 v6 Camaro for sale, if anyone is interested in makeing an offer. The speedometer is dead and the tach is for a v6.
I have replaced the factory gauges with Autometer Phantoms, looks good. If you are going to do this, buy a replacement dash, like from Classic Dashes. Getting the shape has proven very difficult, even with good tools. Close was easy however.
Anway, if you replace the speedometer, you have to replace the cable. Anyone know where to find directions to do this?
