Odometer problems

Hi everyone. I have a 1988 GTA with a digital dash. When I start my car my odometer comes on and seems fine. Once I put it in drive it goes out. Do I need a new odometer or does it sound like something else. If I do need a new odometer can someone point me where to find a good used one?
