Re: Removing center console

I've only taken one Camaro console out. It was a buddy's car that I was changing out the heater core on. But, I do remember there are about 400 screws that you have to hunt down.

....In all seriousness, there are a few screws inside the bottom of the armrest section, you have to pull the shift ****, unscrew the HVAC/stereo bezel, unbolt HVAC & stereo, there are some brackets that hold the console to the dash. There are more that I can't recall off the top of my head, but it comes out in two pieces. the flat part on top with the shifter & window switches is one piece and the rest of it is another. That should get you started though.

Re: Removing center console

Tabs on each side with screws into the dash.
Lift lid - two screws right under front of lid.
In bottom of console - two screws there.
Remove radio/heater control bezel and remove screws holding radio and heater controls.
The radio and heater controls can twist sideways when the time comes, and stay in the car without disconnecting their wires.
Remove shifter **** - if auto there's a "staple" in the front of the **** - turn key on, shift to 1, and pry out staple with screwdriver.
Lift Ebrake handle, remove phillps screw in the side of it. Pull Ebrake up as far as you can with both hands.

Now the "top" of the console will come off - open the console lid to get it started, then close the lid as you lift the rear of it so that the lid spring can come free. - Gently lift rear of the top, and work it towards rear seat over the shifter **** and Ebrake. You'll have to disconnect the trunk release wires and electric window switch wires as you go, as well as the twist-in light for the shifter(if auto).

Now, inside the console bottom there will be a 10mm screw that runs from front to rear and goes through an S-shaped bracket - remove that.

Now, the bottom of the console can be worked out, toward rear seats and gently, like the top - there are plastic vents that connect to the vent holes on the console that you'll need to wiggle away.

I think that's it - hope it helped!

Re: Removing center console

these really arent that difficult guys, you make it sound like its the worst thing in the world, there's 15 screws at MOST for the center console, and if it takes you any more than 20 minutes to remove dont ever work on your car again :P but seriously, look before you tug, reove the top piece then the bottom piece. and matt, i gotta tell you, my dash was the easiest removal i have EVER done, in my 88 parts car i had, i removed my collum and the whole dash fell off, (I'm sadly enough, not kidding) and in my 85 it took only and hour, and that was with me dicking around with other things an drinking as i went along, if you think OUR dashes are scary, here's some food for thought, a 2008 Hyundai Azera dashboard pays a technician 15 hours for an R and R. think about THAT dash lol.
