Door Panel Help for a New Guy

Hey So, i need to install a passanger side mirror in my 1991 camaro rs. How do i take the door panel off to do so? Do i just unscrew the screws, or is there little tabs that i have to push in? Help Please!

Re: Door Panel Help for a New Guy

its the push-ins around the sides and bottom. take those out first along with the armrest and switch panal. then you have to side the panal backwards to release the top clips.

Didnt use the tool, but didnt break the panel either
Cant seem to get the black trim part un-clipped.
Also what do i do with window handle and the locking mechanism?
The locking mechanism is holding in place right now can i leave it?

Re: Door Panel Help for a New Guy

Well i have tried on and off for 2hrs now, its kinda frusterating me.
All i really wanna do is get this stupid mirror on.
Will i need to remove the window handle?
I'm stuck for today im gonna drive it into my shop 2moro where i have better tools and get it done.
The method is push in lift up and shake?
I'm sure i'll see why when i get it off
All the plastic screws are out but each time i shut the door it keeps pushing them in and out so im going to stop the damage for tonight.
As far as poping the lock mechanism off?
How do i do that?
Are there any tutorials on this here.
I searched after i posted but thanks to drew we have more indepth information then i could find on the site.
Pictures would be great or a tutorial or just some answers.
Thanks Drew and Shmack.

Re: Door Panel Help for a New Guy

Get this tool for window crank removal:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WMR-W80646

Best $5 you'll spend. They sell them at parts stores, too.

As far as the lock ****, pull it straight away from the door at the large end with your fingers. It will pop off of the rod and you can then slide it toward the front of the car to remove it from the rod.

Well, I suppose that not all of those release tools are created equal. The one you used may have been an inferior design or quality.

I've had mine for many, many years so I don't remember where I bought it but, it was probably MAC or MATCO. With it, I can have a window crank handle off in a second or less. It wont cause the clip to fly off to parts unknown either. I won't go to a junkyard without it!

Re: Door Panel Help for a New Guy

Yes, well, I'm an impatient guy. All my clips seem to achieve sufficient velocity to travel forward through time.

I hate waiting to 'catch up' to them in order to find them again!
