B&M megashifter? Overdrive?

Well my car when i bought it in december came with a megashifter that was never installed and still in box and he also had a 5ft cable to go with it, I am planning to install it within the next month or so and i am a bit confused.

the shifter plate that it came with does not have the overdrive on the indicater, but my car has overdrive.

what do i do >.> the b&Mshifter w/ the boot wont fit in the stock and the b&M doesn't have the extra D for overdrive.

soz if in wrong place

Re: B&M megashifter, overdrive?

If it goes from P R N D 3 2 1 then you have overdrive it's the D or regular drive mode. When shifting through the gears in ratchet mode 1 2 3 when you go into 4th gear or "overdrive" you would ratchet up from 3 to D. The problem is the stock 700r4 will not go into overdrive mode at full throttle. So putting it into D when ratcheting through the gears is pointless as it will not go into 4th gear at all. Thier are kits that summit sells that will allow a 4th gear shift at Wide open Throttle to fix this though.

Hope this answers the question.

im in school atm but from what i remember, i can read on my indicator stock it goes P R N (D) D 2 1. it doesn't have a 3rd but it has a 2nd drive. And the plate that came w/ the shifter is P R N D 2 1, the B&M is missing the 2nd D. i don't recall ever seeing a #3. I'm more confused now tbh lol b/c ur talking theres a 3 yet on mine there isn't >.>

Re: B&M megashifter, overdrive?

Thier are two versions of the megashifter. Actually they are the same shifter the only difference being the gear indicator plate. For cars equipped with 3 speed automatics thier is the P R N D 2 1 plate like yours. For 4 speed automatics thiers the P R N D 3 2 1.

The difference being on wheter or not you had that extra gear.
You have a 700R4 which is a 4 speed transmission. Thus your gear indicator in the car right now says Park R N OD D 2 1 where D is third gear and OD is overdrive or fourth gear as it would be called.

The megashifter you bought is one that was installed or was meant to be installed in a 3 speed auto like a th-350 or th-400. Since it's going into a 4 speed you'll need to change the indicator plate they sell them for the megashifter at summit
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BMM-80696/?rtype=10

and when installing the shifter thiers an e-clip and pin that blocks the shifter from ratching down one more level which is what needs to be done for a 4 speed. Remove the pin and clip and you'll be able to use 1st gear in the 700-R4.

Hope that helps.

Re: B&M megashifter, overdrive?

had that same exact question,,lol. i was going nuts asking e bay sellers if they sell a bm shifter that has an overdrive spot on the indicator, because the picture does not ever show one.mine is Park R N OD D 2 1 . no one seems to know if this shifter runs up into my ashtray spot up front or not. because if it doesnt, that console plate in my 86 iroc is one piece,,i would have to cut my factory console plate to fit it in there. think its 5 in wide and 9 inches long(shifter plate) but like i said its all 1 piece.
