Interior swap from 88 RS to '90-'92 question

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how difficult it would be to change the interior of a 88 RS to look like a 90-92 Z28? I really like the instrument cluster, steering wheel and all the yellow wording instead of white. I will be putting a carb'd V8 into my 88 (which came with a 2.8L V6... Anyone tell me what all I need to change and how much of a PITA it will be?

Thanks!

I asked the same question last year, only got one post though, but here is the link to the thread. ha it wasnt a lot of help but it did a little bit.

But im pretty sure that if you wanna put a newer gauge cluster in the 88 you wont be able to unless you swap the entire dash from the 90-92, cause the guage bezel and stuff were different shapes. But if you have the time take pics of the 90-92 interior closely and compare to the 88, or just bring the entire interior to the 88 and give it all a shot. Most of the interior should swap though.

Personally I can't say, I own a '91 so I'm not too familiar with the differences. I would suggest though if you can afford it, get the aftermarket gauge cluster from Hawks! Much better look than stock gauges in my opinion.

Re: Interior swap from 88 RS to '90-'92 question

The only difference would be your 88 has lap belts, 89+ cars had over the should belts. And your 88 does not have that blister over the rear seats that houses the electronics for the third brake light on 91-92 cars. If you grab everything out of the donor car, it will all find a place. The rear setbelts may or may not require modification to make them work, I don't think the 88 and prior cars had the provisions inplace, but I could be wrong. Now if you're talking dash and gauges as well, they'll fit, again you'll need everything from the donor car, but there are subtle differences, electric speedo in 90+ vs cable driven in 82-89 models.... yada yada could go on for days, just find a complete donor car and go to town

Re: Interior swap from 88 RS to '90-'92 question

The only way to put a 90-92 cluster in an earlier cars is to swap the entire dash. The 90-92 dashes mount up differently than the earlier dashes so it's not a direct swap but it's not too hard to make it work. You would be best swapping in a 90-92 column at the same time because the wiring for the column will be different as well.
