Power Window Motors

Anybody replace their power window motors ? Other than drilling out the pop rivets, does the trapezoid linkage, and window need to be removed as well ?

Thanks in advance

Re: Power Window Motors

If you elect to remove the regulator to change the motor, the window does not have to be removed.

I would invite you to consider changing the motor(s) by drilling holes in the inner door structure. It is several times faster and easier. There are threads on here and I think there is a 1AAuto youtube that shows how. Having changed several 3rd and 4th gen motors, I won't do it any other way.

What did you use to reattach the motor to the door panel…

Re: Power Window Motors

I did one a couple years ago. If you buy the motors from 1AAuto they come with the nuts/bolts that replace the rivets. Not sure on other sellers though. I did it without drilling the access holes and had to take the whole regulator out. I think if I had to do it again I'd drill the access holes. Search around the forum. I think I recall somebody posted a template that you can print out and lay over your door that shows exactly where to drill the access holes.

Re: Power Window Motors

Thank you for the information – but I am not actually replacing the motors – I'm just stripping down the doors because I'm repainting the car. I had to get two different doors to put on my car because somebody had put Bondo on the old doors and it had rusted through the panels in the middle of the door…
