Help! Horn pronlem

I need help! My 1998 Silverado has bad steering wheel/horn problems. For several years now, when inspection time comes up I have to work my A-- off trying to make my horn work long enough to get through the inspection, and it usually barely does that, leaving me without an operating horn the remainder of the year.
The problem is under the steering wheel, with the 4 small bronze contact bars and the spring loaded plates with contact points that get pushed down onto them to make contact when you push down on the steering wheel pad.

I have tried everything that I can think of to fix this- new parts, dialectric grease, washers glued under the bronze strips, bending the strips up and etc, etc.
I can't even find anything on the internet showing other people having this problem, and the dealership doesn't seem to want to admit that there are any problems with this issue.
Inspection is here, and I can't get the horn to work, GRRRRR##***@@@!!!#####
So I need help, please! I know this isn't Camaro related, but out of several different online forums that I go to, 3rd gen usually has the best people giving the best tech advice.

Thanks!

Rig an external horn button. It will look horrible but get the truck thru inspection.

Had to do I on my RS until the steer wheel was replaced. Had to do it on my dad's 02 Buick a few years ago.

Yeah, almost did that last year after replacing the horn relay and the horn itself, along with all of the other stuff too.

Who has a decent quality and decent looking horn push button on the market?

Re: Help! Horn pronlem

Well, thanks for helping a brother out. You are of course, to the letter of the law, absolutely correct. As I stated, I am a member of this board and several other boards, and frequently check out even more sources for Camaro, Chevelle, GM, Truck, Jeep, boat and other information from many other sources.
And I usually find this board to be very generous, polite and more helpful than other boards that I venture onto. Even though I have seen it a little on other boards, I find that members here more often work for Chevy dealerships and have access to GM service bulletins, or are otherwise able to provide information that is quite useful in solving member's problems. This time, maybe not so much.
The truck in question is parked next to my Camaro, and the Camaro does at least have a horn as well. And in the end, isn't helping other Chevy owners out a good practice?

Oh, and I forgot to mention- I already had been to other sites looking for an answer to my problem until I came back to my old standby, my favorite board- 3rd gen.

Thanks!
