LT1 swap
My swap is coming along nicely, i had a few questions:
1.) im not going to be running any emissions so that means i can remove the charcol canister and emissions stuff located on the drivers side?
2.) also i have bought a 4L80E, and i still have the 4L60E, i know the 60E is the same demisions as the 700R4 and bolts right in, is this the case for 4L80E??

Re: LT1 swap
as far as i know from my experience in being in the lt1 4th gen world and the b body world i think they did have the same casing.. i was gonna get the 80e when i had my lt1 volvo but i decided to stick with the 60e.

1) Yes and no. You can remove it or you can keep it. The charcoal canister can still be hooked up. If you don't want it though then it could be removed and the trouble code could be programmed out. Its up to you what you want on this one.
2) 4L80E is different. Yeah, it will bolt to the engine. You may need a transmission brace for a th400 or 700r4, not sure. About 95% sure it won't work directly with the LT1 computer. You're probably going to need an aftermarket 4l80e controller to control the electronics of the 4l80e. That controller could be expensive.
3) Old starter might work but it probably won't last. The LT1 has higher compression which means it needs a more powerful starter, like the LT1 starter. Plus, the LT1 starter is smaller and easier to work with.

The 4L80E is a TH400 with overdrive added, and electronic control. I was under the impression the electronic controls operated exactly like the 4L60E, but I could be wrong - you might want to inquire on the Transmission forum. The aftermarket controllers will work with all brands and types (except diesels), so that doesn't give much insight.
I was also under the impression there isn't enough room in a 3rd gen transmission tunnel for the 4L80E.
I've considered a 4L80E for the '57, but $1900 for the transmission, $800 for a decent converter, and $900 for a stand-alone controller have kept anything from happening so far.

Re: LT1 swap
im not exactly sure, but i believe ith LT1 edit you can reprogram your PCM for the 4l80e, im not completely sure of that, though i would look into i though if i were you just to find out. 4adrive.com is a site that has a lot of caprice and impala guys on it with well modded lt1s that could probably help you out a bit more on if the lt1 edit software can program the pcm for the 80e, also there are a few people who program lt and ls pcms that u would find on 4adrive, and easternfbody, and probably another site that has alot of lt1 and ls1 drivers.
