LTX and LSXPutting LT1's, LS1's, and their variants into Third Gens is becoming more popular. This board is for those who are doing and have done the swaps so they can discuss all of their technical aspects, including repairs, swap info, and performance upgrades.

OK guys, here is the deal.
I bought two cars, a 88´camaro with a broken 2,8L in it and a 95´firebird with a 3.4.
I bought them to mix the old with the young style... Take the 4th gen interior with all cables/harness, dash, door panels to put it in the 3rd gen camaro.
BUT I don´t want to use the V6, so I bought a 2004 LS1 out of a Vette and mounted all the F-Body accessories on it to fit in the camaro.
My problem now is, what of the 4th gen V6 harness needs to be changed to run the ls1???
You won't, the harness are completely different between the V6 and V8 4th gens.
I was going to do a LS1 swap in a 4th gen V6 car and I was going to have to get dash harness, cluster, BCM harness and then the harness for the engine itself as well, plus swapping out the fuel tank.
I already know that I have to use a 97´LT1 cluster.
BUT why do I have to change the whole interior/dash harness? These cables are for using whipers, head/iterior lights, ac, heater, turn lights and so on, aren´t they??? So why do I have to change it?
Please explain.
Now the engine´s harness. Yes, I know it needs to be changed, the best way is a LS1 one. What do you think about using a "stand-alone" Hot Rod harness?
The dash harness is different between the V6 cars and the V8 cars, and you won't be able to use an LT1 cluster with an LS1, they're different also.
The dash harness also has the wiring to the fuse box, the gauge cluster and everything else you mentioned as well, if you're going to use the dash, might as well use everything.

One is for an LS1, one is for an LT1. The tach output is different between the two, the temp gauge on a 99+ LS1 doesn't give you the actual temp of the car, just lets you know if it's hot or not, the gas gauge is a different ohm range and the pinouts on where the engine harness plugs into the V8 dash harness is different than the V6 harness.
