My '92 Z28 project
Kinda bored at work so I figured I'd fill you all in on my current project. This will be by second swap. My first one was my '86 Z28 that I put together in 2 months and finished back in 2004. I decided I wanted to go all out and build a really nice thirdgen so I bought a '92 Z28 back in 2007 and I'm just now getting started...lol. I pulled the '86 apart as it was rusty and would not do for my build. Currently the engine shop is putting together a forged 347 for me which should be done any day now. I'm going to be using my ported LS6 heads and MS3 cam and topping it off with a TVS 1900 and backed by a T56. Before anyone says it...I know the MS3 cam isn't ideal but I'm curious to see what it does, plus I like the sound. It'll have a Spohn K-member, tubular A-arms, coil-overs, 12 bolt and upgraded brakes (currently has LS1 brakes but I'll probably upgrade). Also going to put on a set of 18" Forgeline MD3P's.
Here are some pics.
The car when I first bought it. It's completely torn apart now. More pics to follow.
The huffer
And for the hell of it, here's a vid of the '86.

Re: My '92 Z28 project
It sure will be! It'll probably run okay too...lol. Did I mention the overdriven set of cogs I have for the rear of the blower?
Should be okay, I have a 3" Harwood cowl hood for it. Although it looks like it would all fit under the stock hood. The rear will certainly fit, but it would be pretty close near the front pulley.
I just found something else I'm going to throw into it too. http://www.auto-hub.com/stardrive_pu..._ignition.html. Its not necessary but its cool!

Re: My '92 Z28 project
Just a quick update:
Got my overdrive cogs today for the blower.
My engine is also ready but unfortunately I have to work this weekend so it'll have to wait for next week. After the 4th of July its off to paint.

Re: My '92 Z28 project
Got a few things done this weekend. Went and picked up my engine from the shop.
Its a 10:1 347 with JE flat top pistons, Eagle rods & stock crank. ARP head studs, ARP main bolts, ARP rod bolts and pinned balancer.
Of course, I couldn't help myself so I set the blower on top of the engine just to see what it would look like.
Removed the remaining parts I need to remove before the car goes to the body shop. Here's how she sits at the moment. You can see the Spohn K-member and strut mounts for the coil over set up.
It looks rusty in the engine bay because the previous owner had the radiator go on him. Oh, and I don't leave it outside with the windows down. Its always covered up

Most definitely! It'll get cleaned up and painted with the rest of the car. Going for a real nice, show-worthy finish. The stuff you see isn't bad. I could take a rag and some windex and clean it off.

Love roots LSx swaps
Is that a car or truck style blower? The accessories are different depths for car/trucks so you may have to do some tweaking to get things right

Re: My '92 Z28 project
There will be plenty of pics. I should take a pic of the Maggie HD tensioner. That thing is massive. The previous owner of the blower said it takes a breaker bar just to move it..lol
Its a complete used kit from a 2004 GTO and I think the accessory depth is the same as the F-bodies. We'll find out. Its going to work one way or the other I'll make sure of that.
I need to hurry up and get this thing painted so I can move on.

Re: My '92 Z28 project
Finally, some more progress!! It was slow going getting the body work done, but I'm finally close to finishing the paint. Still have a long road ahead of me though. Here are a few pics. They don't do the paint justice at all, but you get the idea.
Yes, the engine is sitting crooked. The mounts came out of the LS1 swapped '86 and they apparently got the crap beat out of them.
I may have underestimated the amount of work I need to do. The paint makes everything around it look crappy and dirty so I forsee a lot misc. paint work in my future. I had been thinking of using a lot of flat black in the engine bay to make the paint stand out but I'm not so sure about that now.

Man, seeing your beautiful engine bay makes me want to paint mine! My car is almost the same color as your engine bay. It looks awesome so far. Keep up the good work.

That looks absolutely amazing, jealous i didnt get my engine bay professionally painted. I have been debating wether to sell my procharger or go magnacharger. Will that clear the stock hood?

Re: My '92 Z28 project
I have a steel cowl hood but the underside is the same as a stock hood except for a round cut out. The very top part of the TB will hit a stock hood by about 1/4". I was concerned with the front pulley hitting but it clears just fine. You may have a problem with the stock pulley that comes with the magnacharger but the 2.8 pulley on mine works perfect.

Re: My '92 Z28 project
Thanks! Slow going right now. Just trying to gather some little parts that I need. I have the bulk of everything but I'm missing some odds and ends. Been spending most of my time just cleaning and restoring some off my old stuff so I can put it back on the car. The paint looks so nice that even if the older parts look real good off the car, as soon as I put them on they look old and dirty. I only get two days a week to work on the car and that's if I'm lucky.
Here's a quick pic of the car mostly put back together after paint:
My hood latch is f'ed which is why the hood isn't closed all the way. I leave it unlatched since it saves me a lot aggravation and cursing

Re: My '92 Z28 project
Bringing this back from the dead. The project didn't die, just slowed way down. Got real busy with work and other stuff. Anyway, the car is currently running and I'm gathering all the little parts for the finishing touches. I have a quick video I'll post a little later.

Not sure why but I was having some serious technical difficulties getting this video from my phone onto youtube. It just didn't want to upload for whatever reason. I finally just put it on Photobucket. Here's the link: http://vid77.photobucket.com/albums/...t/IMG_1753.mp4
