blow thru 6.0 F1 build
ok guys i was planning a 427 sbc with and f1 but figured why not try it with an ls, so ive found 2 dropout 6.0s for 700, now i was gonna go vic jr and blow thru carb but wondering what heads, cam, what i can and cannot reuse, i basically went thru and picked out stuff on summit including heads, intake, oil pump, timing chain, stud kit for heads and main, cam bearing, callies rotating assembly, holley retro fit oil pan with pick up, harmonic balancer, valvetrain upgrade good for .650 lift, and howards rockers, msd ignition set up so no ecm and came to 7900 bucks, now i would still need gaskets, flywheel and clutch[, cam and lifters and pushrods, my main concerns is are 243 or 317 heads with valve job and springs just as good as the trick flow 225s or does it matter or what, im at a loss i know nothing about ls lol help please, if you want build a shopping list minus the 700 dollar 6.0 for what would hope to put down 900 to the wheels thanks guys

Heads-
317 are found for reasonable prices. I have a completely stock unported set on my uncles 98 c5 with dual springs on a stock crank 6.0 with forged rods/pistons. Reliable good heads. Identical intake/exhaust ports as ls2/ls6 243/799. Been goin strong on the car for 7yr now at 660rw on pump gas.
But now you can find the l92/lsa heads for such attractive prices, better chamber design anf flow significantly more. The lsa heads love and were designed for boost.
So was the ls9 gaskets. I just received a pair of ls9 gaskets for 115$ shipped.
Best gaskets for boost for the price.
Quite a few ppl have approached the 1000rw on ls gm heads 317/243/lsa/l92.
Its all in ur tune and upkeep to keep from pushing water and blowing gaskets at those levels
Ive pushed 317s to 700rw+ on race gas and meth at about 16-17psi

ok i was thinking running a head a little more free flowing will let me run milder boost levels and still make the hp i want, the callies rotating assembly was to stroke it to a 408, can i reuse the 6.0's oil pump or spend the 60-130 dollars for a new one, pushrods im sure ill have to check the length

I've put Melling oil pumps on mine. While ported factory units seem to do people okay, I can't see risking several thousand dollars worth of built up engine over $120.

ok thats what i was thinking too, i looked on summit and didnt really see anything for a master gasket set but ill look again, i think ill look else where for heads i see afr makes a good flowing head good for 650 lift for 2500. thats better than the trick flows and having to upgrade the valve springs and i have afrs on my 406 and like them

Maybe should also consider dart or as cast trick flow or even the prc 6 bolt as cast are all excellent choices and priced same or lower than afr. The darts are significantly lower priced that the others.
