Help me with my shopping list (carb'd bbc to 6.0 LQ4)
For starters. Car has a 511" BBC that runs mid 9s on pump gas. It's a bare minimal install meaning my wiring harness has been limited to lights, blinkers, starter, alternator and fuel pump wiring for the most part.
I'm tired of not being able to drive the darn thing but I don't wanna strip it and start over. So now I'm looking to do a 6.0 LQ4 swap but keep my TH400 and just turbo the 6.0 to maybe even surpass the mid 9s of the big block. And still be able to drive the car to work and get more than 5mpg.
So far my shopping list is:
Obviously a LQ4
wiring harness from donor vehicle with PCM
New gaskets, bearings etc
Pushrods
Cam
I'd like to get the car running N/A first to get used to tuning it. The big block was carb'd and na
Is there anything else I'm going to need as far as wiring the motor into my car. I know there are threads of doing the swap everywhere but I have yet to run across one where someone does the swap with as little of a harness as I have left in my car. Am I going to need a new thirdgen and fourth gen harness to play with or can I work with what I have. I have fuel and ignition on a toggle/push button setup at the moment. I'm ok with putting anything on a toggle/push button setup if it'll make the swap easier. It's got full chromoly front and read suspension so yes it is a drag car. But I want it to be more streetable because right now it only sees street time from on top a trailer.
Thanks

Id get a brand new stand alone harness off ebay. Since you're starting with basically nothing, there's not much to integrate into. Connect power and gauges with stand alone
If you had most of your wiring Id recommend reading over these

Something like these
http://www.ebay.com/itm/E171-LS1-LS2-LS3-L92-LS7-24X-4L60E-wiring-harness-/200445150973?pt=Race_Car_Parts&hash=item2eab7646fd&vxp=mtrhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/97-06-LS1-DBC-Standalone-Wiring-Harness-with-T56-or-Non-Electric-Transmission-/171201083667?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27dc613913&vxp=mtrhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/97-05-LS1-LSX-Standalone-Wiring-Harness-with-4L60E-DBC-/261346016616?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cd96fbd68&vxp=mtr
Aftermarket control systems like Holley or FAST get expensive quickly

So with a th400 I'd need the one with T56/non electric trans. Or the one with trans that originally came with my motor. Also. Would the "ls1" controller work with lq4? Just asking cause that controller is on there.

Yes
I'd recommend a 4 sp auto over the th400. 4l60es are very nice units. A lq4 would come with a 4l80e which is the modern equivilant to your th400. Good trans, just tough to cram in the tunnel
