Aren't you getting tired of winning the Super Chevy award at Bandimere?

Congratulations! Yours is the most engineered 3rd gen I've seen in person!

No... Not at all. HAHA! I thought you'd be there to take it away from me... Get on that man I appreciate it man. You've seen it for the past few years, and got to see some of the progress we have made with the car so that is a compliment I honor! Thank you

Not sure about power adders at this point, but not ruling anything out. I need to do some more suspension work, and have some plans for some changes coming, but not out of the engineering dept yet

I have some video that I need to upload to youtube, that should give a better idea than the first start idle clips I posted before.

I have narrowed rear end, and custom brakes... I'm not sure you'd want my specs unless you have baer hubs, rotors, and narrowed to my specs. But if you still do let me know I'll tell you.

Thanks. I just read your post in the car of the month thread (congrats btw), and realized that my engine plans are identical to what you've done internally... So I might just copycat lol.
Eventually my car will get to the stage yours is, hopefully in two more years I'll be "done".

I had posted over at your COTM thread however I may find you here more readily.
To repost:

Curious. What are your fenders heights? I haven't gone back to read up (again for the 4th time...!). Do you have weight jacks...or anything to adjust ride height? The wheel/tire combination and stance suit the 3rd gen perfectly. (Is it tubbed?)

Do it man! I'm happy with the way mine turned out. I still got some dyno tuning that needs to be done, and other lil tweaks to get it fine tuned, but I'm happy.

I haven't measured at all. Yes I am on a Ground Control weight jack set up so I can adjust it up and down as I see fit. Great stuff, and I'd recommend them to anyone. Thank you I'm really happy with how it all came together, and no I'm not tubbed even though that is something I would like to do in the future.

Beautiful car and as others have said it looks greats without the stickers. I really enjoy your builds your attention to detail is incredible.

Serious question though. Every time I look at your car I can’t wrap my head around how low it is. I have the Eibach pro kit springs and had to cut bumps to stop hitting them on really rough roads. In addition my car even with the lowered stance rolls over in the front due to the lowered roll center. You must not have much suspension travel before hitting the bumps, and it can’t ride very well does it? How did you solve the roll center problem associated with lower cars? Really large sway bars? Care to elaborate on how you got a stance like that and can still drive on the street?

Haha! Well I to say that at the ride height in the pictures above is my street cruising height would be a lie. I lowered the car with the Ground Control weight jacks just for the photo shoot. The lowered stance just looks good in pics, kinda like the air ride guys I guess. At that height I have little to no suspension travel and its awful. I raise ride height for track events. My springs are 1150lb, and I have aftermarket bars. The ride has never been amazing in this, but I never bought it for the comfy ride haha!

If BADNBLK doesn't mind here's a link to a thread here that covers that exact question.
In a nutshell, extended ball joints and a lowered panhard bar mount will reduce the need for larger sway bars by moving the roll centres. Add to that reduced unsprung weight via light weight wheels, hubs and brakes and you can reduce the need for big bars even more. This not only improves the ride quality, but with an appropriately spec'd shock to take advantage of the changes, keeps the tires in better contact with the pavement.
TEDSgrad and SlickTrackGod do a good job of explaining what happens.

For those that don't. These are the Hooker Blackheart series of stainless LS swap headers for 82-92. They are 409SS, 1 7/8" primaries, and don't compromise ground clearance. I will be using almost their entire set up for this, except for their conversion pan, which will/may require me to notch the kmember for pan clearance.

I replaced a very nice set of Hawks Stainless Works headers for these and I got to say I'm impressed with the quality. The inside of each primary has been smoothed and sanded to provide no interuptions in flow. The SW headers had very nice welds, but nothing like this. Can't wait to get the rest of the system.
How much were those headers? Got a link to em?
Can they be got with a Y-pipe?

You're welcome (right place, right time)
I like a set of these myself. Easy to install over the axle true dual exhaust. Just a little fabrication needed to adapt the mid-pipe and back to my own Gen 1 SBC headers and 700R4 crossmember.

It is a really good exhaust and it is actually cheaper buying that than buying a y and a catback.

yup. I saw yours on the MAVtv episode as well; looked great and I have been watching all the episodes of the whole series. I always perk up when I see a 3rd gen competing.

Mine was on the NJ episode but just the same; maybe for a total of 9 seconds

Great event optima does. I heard that they moved the NJ event from May to August , so that may change things around for me a bit, but I still plan on attending

Linson, I agree with the above. Buying the complete set up really makes it painless and the fit & finish is second to none.

The show is set up to only really highlight the "cast" of the guys running every event and being contenders. I hope that someday I can find a money tree and afford to play with the big boys and travel as well. I don't have MAVtv so I wasn't able to catch any other episodes other than the PPIR event. I can't wait for next season, even though I got thousands to spend to try and come out and show up ya know.

Can't wait to see how you do next season

yup, you are certainly right about that. the TV show definitely spends most of the time on the "heavy hitters" and showcasing their story as well as the car. I totally understand that. Those are typically some seriously seriously awesome cars indeed. Would be nice to show more "raw" footage of more of the overall competitors, but I understand they gotta squeeze all the weekends action into one hour.

I am right there with ya when it comes to wanting to be up there to play with the big boys. You car is light ears ahead of mine in fabrication and mods so I am hoping just to be up to your ride's level one day...! I am interested to see how those blackheart headers go in too. Keeping an eye out for updates as I usually do.

You'll get there bro. Your car is clean and hell. Won't take too much to get you there.

The BLACKHEARTS are on the car. They were the header I initially installed, but I had them Ceramic heat coated, so may not have seemed like it in the pics. That was a crazy deadline time for me haha

How was the fitment of the headers around the sub frame area. I installed the Racing Innovation headers and the fitment is extremely tight to the sub frame area Like 3/8" on the left and 1/8" on the right side. I am running the factory K-member and 4L60E so fitment is gonna be tight but mine is way tight. I guess you get what you pay for.

All I can really say is its good. I didn't really measure around clearances, but I can tell you I had room to not even scratch that shiny black paint when I installed them. Both slid right in from the bottom.
