Sooo I want to work on my car, but I’m laid of and taking a trip to Texas here soon , so I cant afford to get parts… and the sad thing is all I really need to get is a starter, cap, wires, and plugs, and also need to get the drive shaft balanced…. Before I had money but no time, and now I have time and no money…. Grrr this is so frustrating , all I want to do is just getting in my car and do a burnout a block long…. Man I cant wait for that day… just felt like sharing the incredible pain I’m in

Will a 305 do a block long burn out? I can barely get my tires to turn over with the 350.

I understand what you mean. I finally sold my '89 b/c I couldn't take going out to the shop and see it sitting there knowing there was nothing I could do about it. It really gets heartbreaking after a while. I regret selling it of course, so don't be like that just hang in there bro, we've all been there. I can't wait to get another car...

I feel your pain right now! All I do is stare at my Camaro that sits in my garage. All I need to do to it is get new front tires and a front end alinement. Money is tight right now but I will have it done soon I hope. Then shes on the road once again!

I go out to the garage sometimes and imagine I'm driving it. I can't drive it right now cause its winter, and can't work on it either cause theres no room to. I snowmobile and like winter, but can't wait for it to be over now!

Feeling it too brother, Mine has new paint new carpet and new wheels and tires but no seats! But no time or money! My old house will sell soon GOD willing and she should see the road this spring! IF I can get through emmissions! And finish my interior. I feel your pain.

Im with the rest of ya. My 2 year long project is nearing the end and Im going crazy just thinking about driving it. Havent driven a thirdgen in over a year and thats too long.

Hang in there guys... I looked at the scattered parts of mine for months waiting on OEM parts from all over the country. The day it comes together will make it all worth it.

i have the same feelings. mine isn't in pieces (yet), but i did have to sell my 350 crate engine to pay for parts to get the car running again (and the parts haven't shown up yet). driving a Civic everywhere really isn't fun

Its been about 19 years for me. But I finally got a new engine for my 2.ate so after being covered in snow for 3 months the new engine is going in tomorrow its only a v6 but I cant wait to get out of my altima!

I feel you, recently my Camaro had something wrong with it and I couldn't figure it out and nether could the two shop I took it to. I had a freshly painted camaro and it wouldn't go over 25mph with out stalling. Had to stare at it night and day and I also gave hell to the shops, I'm sure they got tired of me calling "did it work, did it work". I final got it fixed and that first ride feels the best. Hope you get the stuff soon and get it running. Good Luck

I'm going to enjoy my convertible every chance I get this summer, because at the end of the summer it will go on jack stands and probably not be coming down for pretty darn close to a year. But when it does, it will be a fire-breathing monster with a 6.0L replacing the weak little 5.0L. So, I guess I WILL be feeling your pain, I can only imagine what it's going to feel like.

See, you guys are all lucky tho, because I've literally have only driven a 3rd gen like 3 times, the last time I drove it, was when my engine seized up... I didnt even go over 45mph .. I did manage to do a little burnout in it while it ran..

even though it was only going for a couple days, it was still awesome.. and I cant wait for spring to get here, so I can get it running again. maybe this time i will do at least 50mph

ive been piecing together my car for over 6 years, started life as a 2.8 berlinetta, once i got it, it sat for 3 years after i pulled the entire stock drivetrain. after i built an engine and th350 and got 87 iroc 9 bolt for it, it sat for another year.

got a fuel sytem in it, sorted out the rear disc's, fired it up, and i knew right then and there it was all worth the wait and the thosands of dollars i had spent.

it was fun as hell driving it around the short time it was up, but i needed more, so its back under the knife. planning around spring to get it off the jackstands. but then again, thats what ive been saying the past 3 years.

Another here, first car bought and only 3 miles driven. Hoping to start her this summer.

If you were closer Id donate some of those part so you could drive your car man. I prob have a few extra starters and caps around.

i feel it as well. did an lt1 swap, finally got it running and the trans went... with too many miles on the clock it all came apart and its getting a carb again... indecisive much?

well i bought myn march 8th and i couldnt even drive it at all tranny was blown so it sat untill i just got it fixed then put a rear axel in it now its gutted interior and i just put new seats in it i couldnt take it anymore i drove it up and down the road a couple times no plates or anything and shes now parked again so i can do a few more things

I just bought mine and cant drive cause i dont have a license and cant work on it either no money for parts so I just go out there and clean it everyday

I'm in the same boat as all you guys. Haven't even heard mine run yet...everythings all pulled out and waiting for the 350 that I pulled from my van. Lately I find myself just sitting in it and wishing I had the money to get it all done at once.

What a depressing subject........

Man this is depressing. Well My car runs and has no trouble leaving some rubber on the road (350 w/ 118k). So I'm depressed bc my ttops started leaking 1week after i got my car. (that was close to a yr ago and I drop money on em yet they still leak), little things here and there keep going wrong with the car and I can't seem to keep up.

The car keeps getting paint chips and dents and scratches in it too.. Depresses the hell out of me...

^^^I hear you on the little things here and there. My problem is if I touch it I replace it. Touched just about every bolt on part on my car, and now nearly 3 years later almost all of it is replaced, haha. Little things start to add up.

sometimes I day dream my car didn't rattle and that is fast...

i have been working on my iroc for about a year now... installing a new trans and trying to figure out all the little gremlins involved with these cars. i finally got it tagged today!! it isn't running great, but it's running! i've been dying to drive it and even though it is not even close to being "done"... it's a blast. good luck with your car (op). it will all be worth it in the end.

steadily on and off working on my car since 2004. longest drive since that time was home from the paint shop. 10 min. i am dying to drive mine. so i think we all feel the pain of projects. but there are some out there with completed, driving projects enjoying them. i just long to be that person sooner rather than later. (next month!!???)

I hope things get better for you. and you are able to start working on it soon. All the money i had extra every month is going into my car now. No more paint balling for a long while =/.

been werkin on mine, new tires, shocks, springs struts, bushings, sfc,strut brace, wonderbar, hopin to paint it before summer and do some ridin.in 2 years, ive driven it maybe 10 miles.goin slow, a part at a time.

I remember when I was 17. I had an old Vega that was in great shape... minus the engine and trans. My dream was to put in a v-8 and have a screamer. That was one of the projects that never took off. I hope you guys get the opportunity to make it happen with your projects. My car is nothing special but I like tinkering on it. It is sitting in the garage. I try to fix at least 1 thing a week on it. Believe me it needs a lot but its progress. It runs but it needs body work and interior work. It will get done.

I know how you feel. I too was laid off and can only watch my car get in worse and worse shape even as much as I try to keep it in good condition...just what happeneds to daily drivers if you can't afford keeping them up. Owned it for 5 years now and spent somewhere between $7,000-$10,000 with little to show for it other than it still running as well as it does.

My Iroc has been garaged since 04! I really messed up the trans my junior year of high school. There went a chance to have a Bitchin' Camaro for senior year. While it was sitting in my garage I went and decided to start picking it apart for paint cause the rust blemishes were making me cry. Now before the paint job is done I fix the trans and thats all good, but my car is still sitting in pieces with primer and I have not had the time(procrastination) to really jump into it again. Garage is cluttered and hardware scattered all over the place.

Yeah i sometimes go to the garage and beg it to forgive me for trapping it in its dusty prison.

Fuel pressure way too high on the 88.
Blown head gasket on the 95.
Need radiator and driveshaft for the 74.
Only drive the 92 twice a year or so to autoX it.
Other than the f'in minivan and Xb I don't drive at all.

Its to the point where beer don't work anymore. Starting to lean toward hard liquor and roll your owns.

I hear you. this past weekend I big time cleaned up my garage, shelves, floor, second floor (Junk area), cabinets, walls...everything. I was going to pull the car out and wash the floor of the garage on Monday after work (just sweeped it over the weekend). Then Monday comes and rain, Tuesday and rain, Wednesday THEY'RE SAYING RAIN....

BUT THURSDAY-FRIDAY-SATURDAY all sunshine. I can't wait. May is going to be awesome.

i had mine for over a year. got her wen she didnt run, got to fix her up and hear her run. been cleanin the interior and put in a system. engine gets cleaner and cleaner but it needs sum exhaust hangers, new tire, blows too much water out exhaust, might need head gasket, overheats since new intake manifold gasket. and im only 17 so i dont hav 800 dollars to pay for driving classes and such so i only drove it once for like 5 mins then got yelled at wen i got home from my mom. its terrible cus i can sit in it hear it run and i cant drive it. my mom says she wants me to get a newer safer car wen i get my lisence but its not gonna happen =)

maybe u installed the intake gaskets wrong. move out when ur 18, or dont bitch about ur parents

So if you've done all that work you should have a real love for your car and not be one of those dumbshi**s on the road with the cars their parents bought....
Make that arguement to your mother along with a few other things (get creative) for instance your actually safer in the camaro because if someone is about to rear end you, you have the acceleration to get out of the way! lol heard somone make that arguement a few years ago.
I owned a 96 camry before my 87 iroc and the camaro def feels safer..
If your a decent driver there is no reason you shouldn't be safe in your 3rd gen. I have plenty of grip in mine, stop wonderfully (actually now that my rear brakes work it stops on a dime.)

And yeah since the economy is so wonderful you should move out when you 18. Obviously you wouldn't have to sell you car and half your stuff to pay the first months rent . Seriously though realize your parents provide a roof, food, prolly clothes, and more and thank them (im 18 as well and sometimes forget what they do/ have done for me).

btw Where do you live that it cost $800 for your license and what all does that cover? In MD its just under $400 or $500 if i'm not mistaken

I feel your paint at least I can drive mine so im happy for that, but it needs paint bad hopefully in the next month it will go out for it finally after a year.

Honestly, but i've felt your pain, i know it's not that long of a time but about i finally re-registered my car about a month ago, i had to let it sit for about three months without driving it.

But i swear to god it was all worth it when i came back from the DMV with those plates/tags and started my car up, i had forgotten the way my car sounded so i was like blown back a bit when i heard my car.
