I've done exactly the same thing couple of years ago but without wire mesh (so you can see chromed throttle body thru the vents. And my cut-outs in the hood are bigger. Never had a problem with water, even after washing the car with the hose and splashing plenty of water in there.

Im getting ideas too, I royaly jacked up the iroc hood replacement I got. I want to fiberglass my own blister louvers but the vents would be further up on the hood not in the middle of the louvers, and I like that orange on black, since my Camaro is black with white Id do that with the hood ^^
