Re: so, i got offered this trade for my camaro, should i take it? not sure need input

The first thing is do you want 2 of the same vehicles?

Second thing is:
You probably have worked on your camaro and know the ins and outs of it and what is wrong. The other car you have no clue what has been done or the little things that are wrong with it. Yes someone can tell you what has been done but was it done right???

So my thought would be on the information you provided is keep what you got.

Seriously though, I agree with AZfirebird. Plus do z24's really get that much better gas mileage over your camaro any way.

I don't see the point, unless your camaro has major issues, why have 2 of the same car....you already have a backup if something goes wrong with the camaro.

Re: so, i got offered this trade for my camaro, should i take it? not sure need input

If the 1990 RS is not getting 30mpg highway, somethings wrong with it. My 1990 TBI V8 RS got 32 highway. Can't imagine the Cav gets better than 30mpg highway. And yes, no one here is going to tell you to trade - we are diehards! We don't care about mileage or anything else - we want, need, and desire 3rd gens!

Re: so, i got offered this trade for my camaro, should i take it? not sure need input

hell no! not saying cavaliers are bad or anything, but its kinda trading down. you should trade up like corvette...(even though thats not practical for mpg). plus your camaro is already a 6 banger, there is little to no differance in mpg between that camaro and those cavaliers, but there is a huge differance in "badassness" lol. cavaliers are like a step down from camaros, and camaros like a step down from corvettes. the main point is the camaro can do the task that the cavalier will just as good, WHILE bieng a much more desired, and cooler car.

Re: so, i got offered this trade for my camaro, should i take it? not sure need input

ok well heres teh problem to throw into the mix MY 89 Z24 HAS ELECTRICAL ISSUES AND I CAN NOT DRIVE IT AS A BACKUP! and my 90 camaro gets under 20mpg highway or city, it smokes at startup for a second or 2 and smokes a little when u get on it hard enuf, its lost alot of power, u can smell its running rich, and the trans is goin bad

recent work done,

plugs wires coil injectors intake gaskets all filters, new 2.5" exhaust mag highflow cat coverter, trans flush and filter n gasket, AND IT STILL RUNS LIKE **** AND DOESNT SHIFT!

Dude, just because your engine has some probs don't write off the whole engine.....rebuilds do wonders, same with the trans, and all thats wrong with the cavvy is some electrical gremlins.

Sounds to me like you're a Cavvy guy at heart; not a Camaro guy. If that's the case, you're definitely asking the wrong group of people.

If you want my personal opinion; I've always disliked those year Cavvy's. The 2.8/3.1 combos were "ok" at best in 'em. The interiors during those times were just plan boring and way too cramped feeling. For my money, the 91-93 Beretta GT's were a better overall car; more modern, bigger brakes (92+), etc. Then consider the GTZs and you've got a car that will walk every single Z24 stock for stock...

Even if you think you adjusted it right it might be too loose, but if not the tv cable, is it leaking transmission fluid? If so the front pump might need resealed, if its not leaking then the front pump probably needs rebuilt or new boost valves, it sounds to me like you aren't getting enough fluid pressure, which points to a pump issue.

Re: so, i got offered this trade for my camaro, should i take it? not sure need input

hmm any help with that would b great, it DOES NOT slip in gea tho and if u baby it it shifts fine but if u slam on it teh shifts are soft and the shift time is slow, it shifts at the right speed but the time to go from 1st to 2nd is slow,, and rolling a 50 and slam on it it just revs and tries to go down into 2nd it seams or 3rd but not fully in gear..

at 30 if u slam it it down shifts quick and pulls but on the up shift its slow and soft so lik im confused as to what to do i dont kno auto transmissions

FWIW - 700R4s are somewhat 'dime a dozen'. They came in LOTS of cars for many years. Find a V6 version may be a little tougher, but still, I see em a lot for like $200-$300 used. Finding one at a place like PullAPart is even easier and they're usually like $60 there.

Personally, i wouldnt do it. Look all over this site, there are so many people talking about how they miss their old camaro/firebirds! dependability and mileage aside i would keep it, and wait till your married and/or with a family to downgrade to something more sensible. thats just my two cents worth! also, as is already stated, you know what work has been done on your camaro, and how to do it! just enjoy it while you can!

I hope you don't take this wrong, but if you don't have $60, you don't need to be driving any car. I realize times are tough (Hell, it's not been fun lately for me AT ALL), but you have to have some plan to cover basic maintanance things. Hell, an oil change is $20-$30 in parts alone if you do it yourself. Even something as small as brake pads are $30 at least. What happens if you trade and this Z24 needs an alternator?!

I've given my opinion so I will keep quiet on the matter - I hope you take EVERYTHING into consideration before making a potentially costly mistake.

Re: so, i got offered this trade for my camaro, should i take it? not sure need input

yea i am taking everything into consideration, but yea i can grab a trans for 100 to 150, but its more involved then that, not i need to buy a motor stand and an engine crane, cuz teh motor is on its way out as well so id also need a motor ( i dont have a place to rebuild it, so now im looking more lik a $600, not $60, so liek its way more envolved then it seems iv been goin over all this for 2 weeks

i just wanted sum input,

and as for the z24 i own i will never get up off of, ever, its pretty much my first actual car and has more sentimental value than anyone could ever put a price on, i tried to sell it 3 times and backed down, i cant bring myself to do it

Re: so, i got offered this trade for my camaro, should i take it? not sure need input

You could get a used drivetrain for as little as 300 if you are lucky, I bought my 3.4 for $250 and he offered me the trans for another $50, but I declined because it was an electronically controlled trans and I didn't feel like figuring out how to run it without using the pcm. And unless you plan on rebuilding the bottom end, you don't NEED an engine stand, even if you did rebuild the whole thing it can be done without an engine stand, just makes it more difficult, an engine crane can be rented for like $30-50 a day, or you can find one on craigslist for $100, seen some pretty decent looking ones for that price on there before. Also as someone whos been there, I would rather have 1 well running car, than 2 cars with issues, I bought my camaro as a project car after my mother and grandma got me a buick century for my bday....(was my 2nd slow, ugly, sedan) and ironically the buick had far more issues than my first car had, between that, my job cutting my hours, and me trying to get my camaro on the road, I wound up with no drivable vehicle, buick wasn't worth fixing to me after I sunk $700 into it and it still needed crap on a 94 with only 106k, in retrospect I wish I still just had my lumina, or had stuck with 1 car at a time at least. I haven't been driving for about half a year now, and it sucks ***.

It's up to you, Which one do youlike Better? I am sure you like them both for different reasons, but with one of each already, why choose?

Since you were asking opinions, if it were me, I'd keep the Camaro

trade it, drive the cavy, use parts of the blue one to fix it if you have to. put some money in the bank, then think about another 3rd gen and fix your beloved blue cavy.

it's just a 3rd gen, getting to work everyday is more important

you gota point bud, but my worry is, in 2-3 years when i can afford to buy another 3rd gen (hav had 2 already) how comon are they gona b, you see cavys dime a dozen, you DONT see 88-90 specific z24s anymore, b/c everyone trashes and junks them as a "cavalier" when really the only thing about em thats "cavalier" is the body lol

im worried that just lik my nova ill let my camaro go and never be able to get anotehr one, had a 73 nova got it cheap, didnt get that they would disapear and b hard as **** to find

and considering the new update taht my trans is shot to hell i think im gna trade, i really need something reliable being said that i drive over 65 miles a day

Keep the camaro! The only way I would own two of the same cars is if they were both camaro's. I also own a 2002 cavalier, it's my DD.

Re: so, i got offered this trade for my camaro, should i take it? not sure need input

Sounds Like you have your mind made up, I sold my Z28 some years back was a little fed up with plus was having marraige issues so I sold it like a dummy. The kid I sold it to had all these major plans for it and promised that if he ever sold it I would the first person he asked. Well he sold it without even telling me and I thought that car was lost forever. Well one day on craigslist I found the car, and it was in way worse shape than when I sold it, needless to say I own it again and I will never sell it again. You will regret it everyday that the car is gone. Really think you should keep it but it sounds like you want that cavalier pretty bad.

Re: so, i got offered this trade for my camaro, should i take it? not sure need input

well, yall wer right, the z24 is nice, very very nice, bout as nice as a cavy gets, v6 NO RUST ANYWHERE which is un believable for these cars, but... its not my camaro, and never will b, i ****ing regret it now.

and im already on the hunt for a another one cuz dude wont get back up off the camaro so lookin at another one, right now im looking at a White and black 1986 t top z24, carb 305 186,000 miles runs decent tho, tryna trade or buy it they r asking $2000, it has no rust cept the drivers floor pan lik my 90 did, so its not to bad, paint shines up very well for being original but being 186k miles im guesing the motor and or trans are not orig but idc lol i want a damn camaro

also looking at a 1989 RS with a 305 but its kinda junk
