new hood pics
I am currently getting paint from the doors forward on my iroc right now, removing the door moldings, painting headlight buckets black, and getting smoke parking lights. I just bought the new VIS carbon fiber hood from ebay except i went to la to pick it up. I paid 540 for the hood picked up. The cowl isnt functional however i am going to make it functional and i am not painting the hood either. here is some pics of teaser pics of the hood, i will have the hood installed and car will be done by friday from what i have been told by the body shop. the hood weighs 22lbs.

Re: new hood pics
That should look pretty cool on there. I would paint it, and leave "bare" carbon stripes or something, but either way.

Re: new hood pics
The hood is a VIS hood, but i bought it through the a distributor company even though i picked it up at VIS in Los Angeles. I found out from VIS i bought if for basically dealer price. The hood isnt perfect but i really like the carbon fiber look and no one makes carbon fiber hood except for carbon creations and VIS. this is the place though--->http://www.ebay.com/itm/82-92-CHEVY-...#ht_3335wt_956

Very nice hood, but I don't see why they did not fabricated/cut/drill, or what ever it would take to make it a functional cowl, they obviously have the skills.

i will be putting on the hood pins MR. IROCZ is using. i put the hood on for a test fit at the body shop today and it looked bad a$$! I just bought new smoked parking lights too. Now i just wish i had a carbon fiber trunk lid. I can't wait to see the finished product and show it off. hoping for pics this week but might be next week.

They sell the 3 piece carbonfiber spoiler on e bay for a ridiculous price. Also you can get carbonfiber viynal wrap to do the hatch, thats what im gonna do eventuly.

Re: new hood pics
Another cool trick you can do is spary red herritage stripes on the hood by using clear coat but tinting it red. We did my friends hood on his car & it looked like red carbon fiber hood.

Re: new hood pics
I don't believe he is going just for 'looks' on the rear decklid. It's more a matter of weight. The rear decklid/trunk on our convertibles weighs over 40lbs! Thus, we are actually looking for one made with carbon to reduce wieght.

Carbon Creation makes a complete rear decklid for our cars, they also make a rear 3 piece spoiler too. Very nice stuff, but like anything else thats CF...pricey.

Re: new hood pics
The stock decklid on the hatchback doesn't weigh shitt compared to our TRUNK lid on the Convertibles. It would be a waste of $700 to buy that decklid for the hatch when you are only going to save 1-2 lbs. On the other hand, our trunk lids weigh over 40lbs...i am thinking a cf or glass lid would only weight 10-15lbs.

You'd be stupid to waste $700 for just a 40lbs weight savings. I think most people would go cf for looks.

Not sure about that one...there are many benefits to CF rather than just looks. Some may even argue that it looks ugly. The main benefits of CF are its strength to weight characteristics. Also, spending $700 to drop 40lbs is not that crazy.

Re: new hood pics
i would say it is completely worth it to get a carbon fiber trunk lid at 700 a pop. i have lost a good chunk of weight off the front end of my car. i just got a spohn tubular k member and a arms, it will help since i am about to put my procharger back on my car. doesnt look like my car will be done till mid next week for paint, then a couple weeks at the dyno shop for all suspension and procharger.

Re: new hood pics
just a little update, the whole entire car is being painted with exception of the hood. We took the moldings off and killed the paint in the quarters plus the back bumper had flex marks in it. Hopefully this week at very end of the week the car will be all done.

Re: new hood pics
i think CF is ugly. the r.i.c.e.r.s and overall import tuner nerds already jumped all over that fad. not to mention it doesnt look good on tuners so it wont look good on anything EXCEPT a full out CF car (whether its real or just wrapped). i love how strong and light it is, but would deffinatly put paint over it. i wish someone made carbon quarters and doors

Not to knock your car, it's amazing. I just think saying you should go with an aftermarket carbon fiber hood because it's stronger is a bit ... even if that's not really what you said. Although apparently it's not strong enough to rely on the factory latch alone... I see you have some aftermarket latches there...
I think your car looks great, though, so Im not knocking you or your ride.
I support the OP's move not to paint it. It'll look great - it's a tastefully done hood, and it will look a lot better than those 6 inch cowls and goofy corvette scoops and fake shakers and silly nostril hoods that are all the rage these days on TGO.
And as far as $700 to drop 40 lbs goes... people spend more than that on aluminum heads every day - even crappy ones like those Pro Comps.

Because an area of utmost importance when it comes to structural strength is the hood?

In terms of strength, yes, Carbon is the best for weight to strength ratio. Do we need it on the hood and the trunk lid...? That is debatable. In the end, anything that weighs less than our stock hoods is a great buy!

where's the link to these hood pins you all keep talking about...i have debated over and over in my head about getting some. my hood shakes pretty good at 110mph...or so. hate to hit the drag stip and have it fly up on me.

Re: new hood pics
when you test fitted it on the car, did everything look like it lines up right? how's it fit to the stock fenders and more importantly the front nose? do they make flat hoods or is cowl the only option? did the patterns on the CF look like it was made one piece?

This is taken forever but the body shop guy is promising me it will be done by the end of next week. My car i can tell is dead straight now all the body panels line up perfect. i have only done one test fit with the hood and seemed to be perfect. this waiting game sucks!

dang, how long you got to wait to get the hood on? are you painting the rest of the car or what? seem like a long time to wait or you just teasing us with the original pictures.

ok car is still not complete, but i am adding these photos of the almost finished product. the hood isn't perfect i have to say it is a bit higher then the stock fender lines. the bumper is not completely bolted down right now, the grill needs to be installed, and the rear spoiler still needs to be installed.i will be upgrading the wheels after it comes out of the dyno shop. anyways here are some pics.

I kinda think that it might complete the look you have going if you were to paint the windshield pillars black. Maybe throw some black masking tape on it and take a few steps back?
The hood looks nice. Look forward to the finished pics.
