If it makes you feel any better, I forgot to move the number 7 and number 2 spark plug wire on the distributor when I rotated them all so I could have more distributor adjustment LOL

BODYWORK and then in the spring hopefully paint. still don't know about a color scheme. the ls swap is probably not gonna happen. I'm tempted to post up my 5.3 for sale. but its in pieces mostly. its incredibly clean though. i went dremel crazy

i just went with white. but the whole site is awesome, you can get every light that a thirdgen takes and replace it with LEDs for around 200 dollars if you arent afraid to solder

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

well, after not wanting to start this morning i messed with the car a bit, got it started and took it for a little drive. came back and heard some weird noises form the engine. took the top of the air cleaner off and coming from the pcv breather tube. milky white, terrible smell. i feared the worst. i though **** there goes a head gasket, its screwed now. but no it doesnt smell like that. it was gas. not antifreeze in my oil. quickly deduced that it was the purge valve. got a new one and an oil change. i'll do more tomorrow. its too late now too cold and dark. anyone ever used kendall liquid titanium? i hear its good stuff

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

seems fine now, after running it for about 45 minutes round trip up and down hills and some interstate i stopped at work (autozone) and checked the inside of the air cleaner. no more smell, no more residue all over the lid. and it isn't puffing anymore. fingers crossed it was just a bad valve. Ive got a line on a charcoal canister but i might just end up trying to fix mine with some epoxy. one thing i can say is that my god the car is running like a showroom new car when its running. replacing old and worn out smog and emissions crap isn't very much fun though, however if i hadn't started doing so id of never found out that my intake is in fact aluminum. or that its a hell of alot cleaner inside then out (spotless inside intake, saw so when i changed thermostats.) as i mentioned before long term winter project is the bodywork, then paint. if there is time i might do a quickie rebuild on the l69. probably gonna be keeping it awhile. although its so tempting to try and update to tpi. i know a head/intake swap would be required, aswell as fuel pump swap and a new harness/ecm.

I didn't know intakes came in anything other than aluminum tbh...Why not just go carb and remove your emissions stuff?

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

got bored today and went into the garage to mess around with my 5.3 gonna get some paint stripper to see if i can get it atleast paint ready, also possibly got an ls1 intake for it and some trans dapt motor mount plates. as far as i know these will allow me to use my existing l69 motor mounts and should put the 5.3 in the correct place right? http://www.jegs.com/i/Trans%20Dapt/9...0002/-1?CT=999

thought you weren't messing with the 5.3. have you looked around for a used 4.8 or something with the wiring and intake and pcm etc. the 99-03 ones would have the cable petal type tb. seem cheap on craigslist and would fit the 5.3

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

fusible link blew again tonight, and i need tires pretty bad, one of the front ones has a broken belt. so for the time being she is PARKED. and shes probably gonna stay that way until spring, i really don't feel like taking hours and hours to trace wiring and run a new fuse link from the starter to the base of the column in the snow.

This is a journal more than a build, you kept posting regardless if no responses, such a positive attitude.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

hey two posts i wasn't notified about, wonder why. but thanks for the support guys yeah it is more of a journal, gues si should change the title
anyways
fusible links in starter wires are gone now, its just wire now. but car still wont start, wont even click. doesn't even try its somehow still not getting power. i still have no idea what could have caused my fuse link to blow again, my original fix was still intact but the car did the same thing. i doubt its drawing too much power when just running heater and radio with headlights on at night. not too much power for a good battery and a 94 amp alt. unless i have wiring issues somewhere i cant see or smell them

no Ive got pretty much all of it, like i said minus a bit of harness (from silverado) but i have it down to almost a bare block, i was doing alot of cleaning and wanted to paint, then decided I'd polish the block. but then i got about half of the block nice and shiny and lost interest again. hard to be motivated when the cars not running well

I know you are having troubles, but remember 2 things.

1) You own a classic Z28!
2) It's paid for!

At least you have driven yours! This is my 3rd year and She's never moved under her own power.

Put an edelbrock on it if you want reliable. I've had zero trouble from mine, granted I haven't actually driven my car yet, but out of all the things fighting me the 1405 edelbrock I have hasn't been. And it starts right up too, even with a half dead fuel pump.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

still get worse mileage then the 3.4. oh and things get worse. took the car out for maybe the last time tonight. went to a friends bbq ended up heading out for drinks after. and uhh this happened https://scontent-a-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...81978683_n.jpg
honestly really like the way it sounds now. might leave it it also managed to throw all of its belts somehow and leave me overheating with a dead battery and no power steering. ended up getting new belts on her and driving her home though. raw uncorked sbc exhaust and all

Just read through this entire thread. Quite the ordeal you have been though with your car. Keep up with the update, it has been a very entertaining read.

Not sure why everyone thinks carbs get some horridly low mileage like 2mpg. Put it on, tune it with a vacuum gauge, and you'll have right around what you normally would with TBI and some FI systems. 14:1 is still 14:1 no matter how you get it into the engine.

thats very true. i'd probably just rebuild mine what with my budget. but FI is alot easier if you wanna do the other FI at some point later down the road

FI is definitely easier/cheaper once you have everything setup and know what you're doing. Sometime in the future I want to go back to FI, but I'll probably go with a Holley kit like the dominator EFI or something.

took 2 2 and 1/2 clamps and twenty minutes in the napa parking lot lol. sounds pretty good when you get on it. quiet enough for me otherwise though atleast for now. i guess after a few weeks of my 2 stroke 305 it will be carbon'd up and burned in good and will get louder

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

power steering pump is leaking, power steering is not really working again. smooth for a few minutes then it has dead spots at low rpm. since i'm gonna be starting my new job at a machine shop soon and have some money to spend is there a "high performance" power steering pump out there? like one alot of racers use? or some kind of retrofit i could do like with the cs alternators? also gonna be switching to an astro van steering shaft just to make absolutely sure i won't ever have steering problems. probably also switch to having my pump run something like mobil 1 synthetic atf

my steering wheel is somehow loose. that needs to be addressed. and once the car is actually running again the plan is a new carb/manifold and the ebay longtubes and a new exhaust because there isn't much left of my current one.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

well. its been a long road. but due to some very unfortunate happenings in my life and my situation. unfortunately i just couldn't afford to keep and maintain the car anymore i hate to say this but... i had to trade it off for something more reliable and fuel efficient.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

no muffler tires on you after a while. you can get summit brand one in two out like stock one for reasonable money. i got one for my old truck and it sounded good. but not annoying. if you want to save money and be creative with tubing, you can fit a couple small universal mufflers were the tailpipes used to be

I just read your whole post, thread, journal from the very start. All the trails and tribulations, "come hell or high water ordeals" good luck, bad luck, coincidences, and so on's. And I get to this post and read "YOU TRADED YOUR CAR!!!!" I said, "wow, he gave up on her".
Then I read you couldn't stand it and got it back. Good job!

Just remember one thing.......never give up and quit on something you love.

BTW....if I may be so bold to ask........has your GF been with you this whole time with this Camaro?? If so, THAT is a strong relationship!

Good luck !

oh hell no, the one that was with me since i owned it left me in february, bitch cheated on me with some guy she met at work, left me for a goddamn bussboy with a barely running subaru legacy wagon that you can see through its rusted so badly. then things got a whole hell of alot worse. and well i'm not proud of things that happened but atleast now i know what jail is like and i don't think i'll ever be going back. new girlfriend however cried more than me when i got rid of the car (shes a keeper ) and was just as happy to have her back, she LOVES camaros and wants one too, she'll probably end up with the red 94 thats been sitting one place or another on the property since........ 2007 holy ****. you think we'd of fixed that damn car by now oh well. i'll make that a mission need to get both cars back to proper working order.

oh and dont feel like its too bold to ask me ANYTHING i'm a very open person haha nothing is off limits

that i am. however jail is a "humbling" place. you see no matter how big or bad you think you are, you're absolutely not the biggest baddest guy in jail. and all 138lbs of me knew that going in. thankfully though i spent all my time in holding for some stupid reason or another they said i was on suicide watch? no idea why but ohwell the past is the past the future is now (i'm quoting Christopher walken in joe dirt there)
