you are going to have to take a personal loan out for stainless. i have put high temp paint on my cheap steal and it seems to last quite a bit longer. if you do it when you get it

yuss!!
ugh i know. they ought to call it $tainle$$ instead. i would like to never have to worry about it again though. you'd figure with all the oil that burns through my exhaust it wouldn't have rusted haha. well here is hoping now that i have a pretty nice paying job (casino security) i can actually post with some mods and updates and progress rather than just "today this broke. i cant fix it because I'm poor"

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
I picked up a 4th Gen gas tank at a junk yard for 25 bucks. Bought a new fuel pump from Buyautoparts.com ( http://www.buyautoparts.com/buynow/2...ml?xref=232796 ) and then I bought the correct ohm sending unit off ebay for like 24 bucks. all in all under 200 bucks and I have a 4th gen gas tank that will send the correct ohm for my stock fuel gauge.

thats cool guy, but what does any of that have to do with my thread? lol
anyone have any experience with OBX exhaust products. i'm looking at the "ebay longtubes" with y pipe and they're stainless catback system its by far the cheapest stainless route to go, just hope its not the cheapest for good reason

i think i read somewhere that shorties are realistically better for a street car anyway and of course they are always gonna be cheaper than longtubes. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHEVY-CAMARO-IROC-Z-5-0-5-7-305-350-V8-CID-SMALL-BLOCK-STAINLESS-EXHAUST-HEADER/150689513706?_trksid=p2047675.c100010.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D333008%26algo%3DRIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D25879%26meid%3Df1f7663318a04797a64eb7d568410928%26pid%3D100010%26prg%3D10819%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D24%26sd%3D281445759189

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
well i had to go and post again and look what happened
well anyways fusible link burned up again (how does this keep happening with heat wrap and a stock exhaust.....errr some of a stock exhaust. well regardless because im gonna be getting headers anyways i did a bit of trick wiring. i have a 70s ford starter solenoid mounted on the firewall now and one big *** battery cable running from it down to the big post on the starter. which is now wired to the little post on the starter. basically my starter is now wired always on, but it only gets power when the other solenoid gets switched on when i turn the key because all my other wires are on the other post of the remote solenoid. kinda neat and hopefully i wont have anymore melted wires and 70mph all of a sudden deaths from the car

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
the headlight buckets and hood bulges (the z28 ones scoops? bulges? strips idk) painted those black. and tried to colormatch the passenger quarter after my neighbor backed into the car. but somehow now its 4 shades of white on any given day. and i can't get it clean for the life of me. i tried a clay bar, fine cut polish, buffing. only difference is now theres less paint on it. but its gonna be painted hopefully over winter

must have had it worked on by a cheap shop, they just paint the panel they are working on and leave the rest. cant do that on a white car it will never match. red is pretty much the same

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
shop? who takes their car to a shop? i did it. however i am poor and its MY only car so well....... i kinda half assed it. it could use some glaze and a longboard to really straighten the panel out again. getting the lower bodyline right again is a huge pain. as for the paint well i guess duplicolor color match doesnt quite match. that or the can i used "polar arctic white" didnt quite match my 31 year old paint lol who knows. whole cars gonna end up iroc yellow at some point

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
I'm not trying to hack but I have just read through your entire thread. I started at 9 and its now 11;30 lol . I must say buddy, it was highly entertaining at times and very old yeller"ish" when you sold it and got it back. I am very happy to see someone loving their car through thick and thin and doing whatever it takes to keep that dream alive.
I have owned 3 third gens and my favorite one out of them was my 83z28 H.O. 5 spd .
When I bought it, The carb was gunked up and stuck so we threw a holley 650cfm 4 barrel on the top, and she ran awesome! Idc what anyone says, it leaked oil like a pig, but when you threw it in gear and stepped on it, that 305 really came to life, It just felt like the car was IMHO to heavy for the engine, don't get me wrong, It moved but the best modification's I ever did to that thing was throw some long tubes on it, and swap the rear end out to a 4.10, that thing really started scooting then. It would spin through 1'st, and bark 2nd and 3rd, I loved that car more then anything. One day though sadly I had to sell it. I lost my job, and was about to loose my home. The guys I sold it too crashed it, I never saw it again =/
I cant wait to see what happens with your build, Its looking like your almost at a point to throw that 5.3 in or hell, a 6.2 lsx =D

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
kinda abandoned the 5.3 been trying to sell it but nobody wants a half torn down 5.3 that some idiot (me) polished half the engine block. lol honestly just like to get a nice tpi setup. honestly prefer a newer lb9/t5 combo so i'd have FI and a roller cam. not goin in too much of a performance direction with the car anymore. i just wanna build a nice cruiser.
EDIT: did not spell check abandoned, also for now, i actually really like that the car looks like such a heap of **** lol gives it character. but i have plans for it to get painted this year. after the exhaust is fully tackled

Right on man! keep it up! I don't get on much as Im a member of Ls1lt1 now but I will check in from time to time and go directly to this thread lol. IMHO the TPI isn't all that bad. If you think about it, the 5.0 and 5.7 tpi's are amazing engines, tons of fun, and still competitive engines, good cruisers as well .

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
well my exhaust arrived about a week ago, now i gotta be honest when i bought it i expected cheap shitty made in china stuff. but damned if this isn't an incredibly high quality product. i open it up and i notice "hey this is really nicely packed" and then i see it and say "oh damn this is really really shiny" i look at the muffler real close and "oh my god these welds are actually really pretty" and i see how nicely the brand plate is tac welded onto the tips (which personally i don't like) and i say to myself "damn, for $339 shipped to my door, this is a real nice 3" stainless catback. and the stainless is actually a bit thicker than your traditional aluminized pipe you can buy from the parts stores

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
its funny you say that, they aren't went to a local car lot last week and tried to get approved for a nice little SUV (one of which ive been looking for, for quite some time) and found out i have horrible credit my identity had been stolen two years ago and there were aLOT of hospital bills (probably fake) turned into collections on my credit report. butttttt now thats all taken care of and hopefully wont happen again. so in maybe two-three weeks time it will show on my report and i could easily get financed for a 14k loan with a 3-350 a month payment. unfortuneatley. this will almost certainly be sold before then

You're better off. I have driven a few of those. They drive, ride and sound like old jeeps with none of the capability. A 5.3 Tahoe or Yukon gets way better mileage, has more space and actually rides decent.

Nice progress. Glad to see you got it back.
I know how you feel about calling it a POS, but are ready to fight if somebody else calls it a POS. I'm going to call it the TBC 84 Z28. LOL

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
i wouldnt worry too much about driving that. just check the heads out, some have the castec heads that crack and let the coolant mix with the oil. if the heads look newer and cleaner than the engine dont worry somebody else has incurred the cost. if it all looks original, check the oil good for water. most have exhaust manifold leaks but thats a cheap fix. and the suspension with auto level control is pretty problematic and if you put stock parts on it its terribly expensive. you can convert it to a standard setup though pretty cheap, and if you haul anything(i haul a big camper) you can put aftermarket air ride on it for half of what the oem compressor costs. i put bags and onboard compressor on my yukon for less than 300 i think.

i have no idea what the numbers are, i think its cast into it some where, if you do a google search for castec heads there are a million posts with pics and stuff of what to look for. lawyers and bankers are the slowest in the world and have no respect for anyones time.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
well ended up deciding to keep my car and forego moving for awhile atleast. don't know what i should do now. probably gonna look for s cheap used manifold and carb that already run well so that i won't have to worry about my car not starting. anyone selling a cheap edlebrock setup? kinda still wanna go with an lt1 intake
