Re: 2 Camaros in the family
Thank you.
The car look just as nice in person. It has car has been well taken care of/maintained it's whole life.
I just pulled the Z28 out of mothballs. When I bought the car the original HO 305 was gone.A truck 305 with a lame computer controlled Q jet was in place.
The research I have been able to do so far indacated this car should of had TPI injection.
I have replaced the truck 305 with freashly rebuilt 350.Edlebrock carb /intake,hooker headers, flow master muffler.Old style vacumadvance distributer and a TCI kit in the trans (de brained the engine/trans)
I am hoping to have to road ready again shortly.
I am also thinking about changing out the lower trim to silver or maybe event white.
I really like the solid red on the RS......

Thanks for the complements.
Personally I think this car has just enough black accents on it.I do like the monochrome grill.
BOTTELEDZ I do like the way you have your driving lights mounted in the grill.I would really like to find a set up like that for the Z28
As soon as I get the Z back out of my shop I will take some better pictures of it.
The body/paint on this car is in decent shape.I can tell by just looking at different things. It has led a very hard life.

BottledZ28- Nice Camaro! love the black rims, its a very nice accent to your car. I never thought about switching out the grill on my RS. Black wouldn't look bad but I love trying to keep the car original.

I herd you..........LOL
Just as soon as I get it to where it is not in a cluttered shop and can take some decent pictures of it. I will take some and post them up.
Sorry I feel that pictures just like the mechanical work being done should look "right".
I lost some really nice ones I had when I had some puter problems not long ago.

Wow, is the 92 a Heritage Edition? Super clean and really pretty.
EDIT: There's a 25th Anniversary badge on the spoiler. That's awesome!

Re: 2 Camaros in the family
Not really sure on that one
The car is fully loaded.not really sure how to identify it as a "Heritage Edition"
Thanks for the tip on the lens polish both cars need that.
The fan is an industrial explosion proof model/combination air conditioner
For being a MD rust belt car that has led a hard life the 86 is in decent shape body wise. The IROC wheels where on the car when I bought it.I did polish them out. They are in need of center caps. The car has been setting for a few years and now like a lady you don't pay attention too it is trowing some issues at me.
Today I had to pull the hatch pull down latch because when you shut it all the little motor does is spin.
I pretty sure the brake booster has gone bad from setting......

Re: 2 Camaros in the family
Had someone PM me and ask, figured Id post for the OP. I used a kit VERY similar to this, but it had a pad that went into a drill.
This appears to be the hand version:
http://www.autogeek.net/3m-headlight...FcqP7QodDCAA_g
And this is the drill version I used:
http://www.autogeek.net/3m-headlight-kit.html
Also, all 92 Camaros were "25th anniversary" cars, but only the ones that got the stripes were "Heritage Edition" cars. That option is relatively rare, whoever bought the car paid extra to get those stripes and badges and it does impact the value of the car.

Re: 2 Camaros in the family
Yeah.
It's got 25th anniversary badges on the spoiler, heritage stripes, and a body colored grille. I thought that indicated Heritage editions? I know all 1992 RS's had 25th Anni. badges on the glove compartment cover, but not on the rear spoiler.
This looks just like 88Fan's, albeit without the alloys.

Re: 2 Camaros in the family
InfernalVotex, thank you for the information.
As I stated before I am a newbee to these forums.I really have not hung out here long enough to know who to PM questions to.
I also learned some thing else about this car and it's stripes. That was the first thing that really jumped out at me when I first saw this car.Seeing as how I am a life long Chevy Guy who has all ways liked the early SS cars and there factory stripes.
The only thing I don't care for on this car is the Lexan T tops.
They do have some light scratches.I might be able to polish them out.
It kinda looks like the P.O.might have tried to wax them because the scratches are bright white. The stripes also have white edges because who ever waxed the car never or did not know how to remove the wax from the edges of the stripes.
Thanks to these forums I might have located a glass set.
Thanks again for all of the complements.

Re: 2 Camaros in the family
A quick question about the stripes on the Z28.
The car has triple gold/black stripes that border the ground effects along the side of the car.
Is there any one out there producing replacement decals for these stripes ?
Sorry not a huge fan of the gold. Due to damage on one of the ground effects I need to replace it.A repaint is in order. The only problem is this car has been repainted once before in it's life and they just taped the lower stripes off.
Once I remove the factory decals It will leave a heavy tape line where the stripes where at.That means I will need to remove that line and "cut in"repaint the car from the center of the body down. OR cheat a bit and replace the stripes by ether painting them in or reapplying decals.
The good thing for me is I do have the skills to do ether of the for mentioned options......

I like the fan on the right! Looks sturdy!
In all seriousness, the 92 RS reminds me of my car when it was stock. they wont win many races but they do sound nice and they're very reliable, nice driving cars. Yours looks VERY nice, but you should polish up your parking lights.
Mine went from this:
To this:
Using a $15 3M kit at the auto parts store, a drill, and about 30 minutes. Very easy to do, just be sure to remove them from the car. I think its just two bolts if I remember right, easy peasy. I always advocate it because it happens to everyone and its SO easy to fix.
They will re-haze over time, as you take off a protective UV layer, but the layer has already failed allowing for that oxidation to begin with, so it's not a huge loss. I did mine 2 or 3 years ago and they still look great so I'd be surprised if you had to do it more than once every 5-10 years. It's pretty much the only thing on that whole car that could be improved as far as I can see! Its very nice!

There will be projects, work you will be performing on this car as well.
With dear old Dad's guidance of coarse.
I noticed the 25 anniversary badge on the rear spoiler when we first looked at the car.

Re: 2 Camaros in the family
Some thing finally went right for this project.
Took the hatch pull down assembly to Vinces Auto Parts.
A local auto recycler. The yards owner rebuilt the latch assemly right there while I waited.
Less than an hour later and 50.00 I had a working hatch latch.
Now on to a braking issue.Looks like i might have a bad power booster behind the master cylinder.
Going for a ride tomorrow to pick up new ,used lower ground effects and door extensions.

Re: 2 Camaros in the family
you should be fien, that is you shouldn't have to do anything to the car after taking off the decals, i used lacquer thinner and a microfiber cloth along with a razorblade when taking mine off and if done right (takes a long time and a real pita) but you can get the adhesive form underneath off and the paint will be fine, if it isn't i'd spend a while buffing the car to make them blend together nicely so that you'd never notice

Re: 2 Camaros in the family
I had a 25th Aniversary badge on the dash in my '89 RS. Used a straight blade to cut off the 25th Aniversary part and was left with a very unique badge since all RSs from the factory had the "Camaro" badge. Looked very cool IMO.

Except apparently for the 92 year. Mine, which you've seen, has an RS-25th anniversary badge on the dash. I've been told that all 92's have a 25th anniversary dash badge, regardless of model. Only the Heritage editions got the spoiler badge.

Re: 2 Camaros in the family
Ok here is a picture as she sets right now.
I found a guy big into 3rd gens with a very nice collection of parts in my local craigslist.
I picked up a very clean pair of the lower rocker ground effects along with a complete set of seats.
Of coarse I need to get her running right 1st.
I have removed factory decals on other projects with a heat gun ans lots of patients.
NEVER use a razor blade to remove ANY decals.
I also use acetone to remove the remaining adhesive then buff out the paint where the decals where at.

Re: 2 Camaros in the family
This car came with a kinda weird color combo.
White with the gold stripes and a pretty fugly brown and black interior.
I am good on the white over all color .The gold has to go.
I am leaning towards a nice silver on the bottom.
The interior will be all black.
This car has sat idle for a few years now and it has been harder on the car than if I drove it every day like I stole it.

I also don't mind the Z28 badging.
I am in need of all the out side ones.

Re: 2 Camaros in the family
We are taking the 92 for a nice 3 hour ride today.
So far the car has turned out to be a very decent driver.
A couple of minor issues has came up nothing unusual for a car of this age and mileage.
The 86 must have really liked being parked. It is doing it's best to stay that way.........LOL

Re: 2 Camaros in the family
Weather has been great the last couple of days here in Md.After a week of gray rainy days.
We took a nice 3 hour with the T Tops out.
Our first T Top car I liked riding with out them.
While the TBI 305 is not a big power house. It makes up for that in good looks and pretty decent gas mileage.around 20 MPG
It does have a shock in the rear making some noise......

Re: 2 Camaros in the family
yeah while the l03 isn't an lt1 ls1 or lt5, it makes up for it with some good points, one being that its incredibly! reliable! it gets good mileage for a v8, its easily dressed up to look good like an old school v8 ie: valve covers, air cleaner, chrome dress up stuff, it is pretty easy to work on, not alot that can go wrong on it and when it does its usually pretty simple, and hey it is still a v8, also like you said some of the nicest cars are not the fastest, a stripped out weighs nothing go fast racecar is no fun for everyday, a good looking ttop l03 camaro is a good thing to have
