My $300 Camaro

So I was playing around on craigslist and came across an 87 camaro in town. Price said a $1 but its never true lol. While working hard at work in the break room, I found out the location of the camaro was behind a firestone...Behind my house. Called up my brother and told him to scope it out! (Still at work). He said it was good, so i checked her out after work. Kept talking with the guy and he said he'd take $300 for it. Runs, Drives, Clean title in my hand. DONE DEAL. Here's my 1987 Chevy Camaro sport coupe. 164,000 miles. Runs really good actualy. Shifts good too. Needs interior work, only missing door panels and a headliner. seats trashed as well as the dash pad. Needs tires. The P/O had only water in it which explained the overheating... fixed that. No more overheating! Body needs just a small bit of work. My 91 is teal with black stripes. This one will become black with teal stripes. Ill take better pictures later.

My brothers 87 300ZX in the background.

Re: My $300 Camaro

Sweet deal man! I never find the good scores like that around here. In fact around here that would be a $1500 asking price all day long.

Yeah I'm always looking too and here in NE ohio everyone thinks used cars are gold mines. It's not even 3rd gens-every used car is high priced it seems and beat to death.

Re: My $300 Camaro

good deal! mu first camaro was sold to me by a co worker she said it was sitting at her mechanics for the last 6 months . it was blowing sterters alts and the bat was "eexpanding " mechanic could not find out why so she got tired of replacinc parts every 2 weeks . so I bought it for $60 bucks yes sixty . took it home mechanic said alt was bad so i removed it , and as I removed the plug it felt like jelly but looked fine. so i started playing with it and pulled it a little and the plug streached from the wire .... 25 cents later it was good to go! that was my best deal ! it was an 86 iroc Z with hard top and mint interior Except the drivers seat where i peed a little .

I hate you LOL! Yeah I would love to move, but Job, house and fam is keeping me here for awhile longer. I have got some good deals on car's, but that was back in the day. I mean I did not get a bad deal on my 3rd gens, but not like a smoking deal.

Re: My $300 Camaro

Thanks everyone. Yeah, She was a steal! Here shortly I'm picking up gray cloth 4th gen seats in really good shape, door panels and 3 15ich Z28 wheels. just gotta find the 4th one. When I buy some tires, I'll throw them on. The drivers door does not close all the way, could either be the hinge or the door, door has alittle damage so Im just going to replace the door and hinge.

Re: My $300 Camaro

Tried to make some copy's of the key tonight at both my local lowes and home depot with no success. I don't like having one key to the car.

So people know what the 91' looks like and so the will know what to expect...

My 82 TA was a 1000 bucks and it was all good! I still tore it apart but it was a clean & running car. There are good deals out there.

Not bad at all. You got a lot better deal than I did. I paid $900 for my 87 Sport Coupe that had hit a deer.

Re: My $300 Camaro

I love that 91 Vert. If you have the SC half as nice it will still be a cool car. Yeah bad weather and working on cars outside sucks-that is why my RS is still under the cover in the drive way with the same issues unfixed.

Re: My $300 Camaro

Thanks everybody, yea the weather has sucked. My good days have been dedicated to helping my great aunt move. I wish I had a garage, no driveway either. House backs up to creek so all I have is a circle drive. It sucks, not car guy friendly. I love my 91, she was my first car ever. Didn't look as bad as my 87 but she needed help. Fixed her up in high school. I'll have to make a thread on her some day. 107,000 miles.

Not a bad way to spend a grand. I'm planning on getting a junkyard vortech 350 for mine come tax time just to have a v8 in it. Future plan is a 6.0lsx.

So I was looking at her tonight, The upper radiator hose gets real hot while the lower doesnt get hot at all... A mechanic from work told me that it is most likely the thermostat or water pump. I will start with the thermostat. I hope thats it!

Re: My $300 Camaro

So tonight I went out to pull the thermostat and let it run to see if that was the issue. Well... you cant pull a part that doesnt exsist on the car... Lol. Im guessing its the water pump then.

Re: My $300 Camaro

electric fan or the one mounted to the front of the water pump?

can you tell if the fan clutch is working? I have a feeling it's not your water pump

Re: My $300 Camaro

She is now running good, no more over heating. Did some road testing and all. I need to finish up the body work and get her painted. Im at the point now where I dont know what todo next, Build the motor or swap in a 5 speed?
I did take her to a local third gen camaro meet (NTTGA) and showered her off as well as my '91.

The old girl and I.

Re: My $300 Camaro

Thanks guys. The door and fenders I bought off a guy parting out a camaro the caught fire. Picked them up for $150 with all the locks and a key. I want to paint her gloss black with teal stripes to go with my teal with gloss black striped 91' camaro. Heres the deal tho, my brother is in the paint and body program at school and is finishing up his 87' Nissan 300ZX. If he finishes, he can move on the the race car. Id like to pick up a cowl hood first tho.

Sounds like it's going to be a nice color combo and I cowl hood would look nice as long as you don't go too tall with it.
