Finally got a Trans Am (lots of pics incoming!)

As of November 10, 2007 I finally became a F-body owner. I bought a 1987 Trans Am WS6, after searching for only 2 weeks. I have been lurking around the boards looking at everyones beautiful cars and drooling. Since i was 14 years old i have always wanted one and now at age 31 i got mine, Its got its problems but its MINE! the front is faded and rock chipped all over and the hood is faded but thats about it. So here come the pics hope you all enjoy. Oh ya it only had 116,000 miles on it and ugly floor mats i bought it for 3500.00(mats where free of charge).

Please dont get all jealous of the seat covers they are custom! (owners cat tore up the drivers side seat)

Re: Finally got a Trans Am (lots of pics incoming!)

It is the one that was in craigslist =) it does have the code 33 that he said in the add, so i need to figure out whats wrong with it, he already replaced the sensors and the maf so its going to be a game of follow the wires around. But it still runs like a champ!

Re: Finally got a Trans Am (lots of pics incoming!)

The wires will most likely end at the two relays (power and burnoff) on the firewall to the right of the brake booster. It was a poor mounting design by GM, and the harnesses have a tendancy to pull out of their connectors (ask me how I know this :P).

As for the bird, it's in great shape, although I always get nervous when I see a sports car with a trailer hitch. Makes me wonder what crack the previous owners were smoking.

Any big plans for it?

thats a very clean T/A, I'm lovin those seat covers your lucky, only searching for 2 weeks, I looked for around for a year and a half, then got mine when I was 14. 87 Trans Ams are the best looking Third-gen ever built, its a proven fact.

Man!!! Your crosslace wheels are even the 87-only, correct ones. My 87 GTA had 88+ crosslace wheels on it. I want 87 correct ones for my GTA....

Now if yours had the wrap around wing instead of the pedestal wing...I've never been a fan of those pedestal wings.

Your car looks good though!

Re: Finally got a Trans Am (lots of pics incoming!)

Yes the tow hitch bothers me, and my buddy too, when i bought my 93 prelude guess what was on the *** of it....Yep thats right a damn tow hitch! I let my buddy borrow it for a couple of weeks and when i got it back no tow hitch lol. I plan on getting rid of it, The spoiler i dont like either the guy got a little hit in the back and when he had it repaired he got rid of the original spoiler because it was rubber and cracked, i plan on getting either the fiberglass wrap around or the 4th gen one.

Thank you for all the compliments on my new bird =) I love this board has a lot of great information and friendly people. My list of first things to do is fix the code 33, brakes are squeaking, and when i hit a bump something in the front suspension is rattling, Hoping to meet some of the local san antonio f-body guys so they can help me check over her, when she starts it does make a strange noise sort of like a vibration, and it vibrates wierd when the a/c(woot it works awesome) is on and i put it in park. Its ok in drive only in park it gets loud inside the car.

Just the "dimples" on the ends of the crosslace, next to the polished lip. 87 = no dimples (like yours) 88+ = dimples

ALSO....the center caps...87 were Firebirds, 88+ were WS6 centers.

Nice Car, and welcome to Thirdgen ownership.

I bought my first 3rd Gen (an 83 Trans Am) at 15, and have owned one ever since.

Enjoy your new Ride!

I like your car a lot...great coor scheme.

I bet with some polishes and a Porter Cable polisher, you could get some of the dull paint to come back to life, to some extent at least.

well if you decide to sell it, let me know a price, shipping would probably be a killer though.

Coyotesa, I must admit, that color scheme is growing on me.

Well, a local guy bought my fiberglass aerowing, and I'm LOVING my OEM 4th gen wing.

$100 for a OEM wing plus 5 minutes and a few layers of plexiglass for the center posts vs $350 for a aftermarket 4th gen style one...Go OEM.

Those are the mats that I have in my 92 Tran Am and they look great in it. You won't be disappointed if you do decide to get them.

thats a 305 tpi 85-90 trans am box.. it might even be 85-92 but they probably redesigned it when they switched to speed density from MAF.

Actually, it was stock on my 87 350 too. Its the pre-88 MAF intake, for all TPI cars (not just 305).

never seen it on a 350, they always have the rounder tube ones. I'm obviously wrong though if yours came stock with it.

Re: Finally got a Trans Am (lots of pics incoming!)

I've often wondered if it was a 87-only thing, as it seems "rare" to even see one.

When I bought the car, I was like..."WTF is THAT?" Damn restrictive on incoming air, thats for sure!
