My 1986 Firebird story( My real first car )

Ok everyone I had an 86 Firebird before I bought my 1986 Trans Am. Here's the story:

Well I was car crazy back when I was in Sophmore year in high school (Last year). I would keep looking at eBay for a car to get and ask my Mom "What about this one, can we get this one" Her respones would be "Worry about school then we will worry about a car" Then one day I was looking on eBay and found a 1986 Firebird with no Engine or transmission. It had a clear title. I asked my mom could we get it we could use the parts for the 1989 Trans Am GTA. After her pondering for a little while she said yes. That night we set up an eBay account and bidded $700 for it, against the $500 that was already on it. So ten we went to dinner I was thinking about the car and what i could do to it... So then my Moms like what are we going to do with another car. I felt kinda bad and said " I hope we dont win it then" But after dinner I checked the auction was closed and we won the car for $611. Now the problem was getting the car from Detroit Michigan from NW suburbs. We alreay had the truck and then we got the trailer from route 12 rental. We spent the next Sunday driving 10 hours there and back to get the car. Got it home looked at it thought it was neat. Within the next week we moved the car from our driveway in the NW suburbs to my mom garage in the city. It sat there for a year till I learned about this site and FIREBIRD CITY. I had posted numerous threads trying to find where exactly this place was in Wisconsin. Here are the examples of how many I posted:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/prob...p-suggestions-
comments/442038-help-get-firebird-city.html?highlight==

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...tml?highlight=

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/nw-i...tml?highlight=

Well after asking and no one responding except one person saying "Why don't you call him and ask him for directions" So I did and got the real directions there. Then that Sunday I went up there to see about an Engine and Trans for the 1986 Firebird. We got there looked around and finnaly got to the Black 1986 Trans Am He said after starting it up " I'll give you the engine and trans out of here for $700 bucks, then the shop down the street will put it in for $600. Or you can buy the whole car tax, title, ... for $1500." Then he said "After you put in the engine and trans what about the unknown problems you will have deal with" Then my moms like "It is a nice car now you have to make a decision take the car or swap the engine and trans out." Well I thought I wanted to keep mine cause I was attached to it. But within a minute or two making my desicion I said lets take it. Ok my Mom put $1000 down and say "can we trade the '86 Firebird in for anything" He said I'll have to look at it" So we brought the car a week and a half later got $300 for it and got my car for $1200.

I made a video of the Grenn Firebird before any of the forum stuff or even knowing about Firebird city. Here's the link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cachuxQOU1U

To bad the guy has a car crushing sale and crushes all the Firebirds, Camaros, and Trans Ams every Spring and Fall

This was my car last November/December some time before going to the crusher

I'm upset he does this but It's just those thing you can not stop.

So moral of the story take the opportunities but think of the consiquences.

Sorry this was so long had to tell my cars story before and after I had it.

The guy has a 1986 Camaro for sale check out his website Firebirdcity.com

Heres the link to my 1986 Firebird. This was my first post on this forum.

So, maybe you can clarify this for me... Why the hell did you buy a car with no engine or transmission when you didn't (or I should probably say don't ) know anything about cars?

Sad to see a perfectly restorable Bird get crushed.
Oh well.. I guess with each one destroyed it simply means mine are more valuable.

Re: My 1986 Firebird story( My real first car )

Crushing Firebirds every spring and fall, pretty sad. Even though many of the parts do not bring a lot of money now, look at the '69 Camaro market. I am sure many of them were crushed on regular rotation back in the day. One day our cars may reach the same status and it for the same reason, rarity. Look at the prices of GTA wheels and seats in good shape.

Hmm..

Interesting. I wouldnt personally go with a v6 and manul on top of that.

I am around your age, 17, and recently bought my 3rd f-body, an 84 T/A, with a 305 Auto ttops pw. Runs great nice alum. racing rims, 2 new tires, etc. for 450 Bucks, Could NOT pass that one up!

Good Luck .!

whats wrong with you buddy? i have plenty of chances to swap out my original 3.1 motor, but im not gonna do nor will anyone smash my car. the reason the people on this site love f-bodys is the same reason i will not swap my motor, cause we like what we like, i couldnt care less about american muscle cars, my prelude would take most any muscle car you could line up with it. "there is no replacement for displacement" is done with deal with it!

Some people buy a V6 because.... it doesent matter what they start off with, they can do a V8 swap and not worry about what it had from the factory.

So crushing, makes no sense at all.
