'86 Trans Am
Here's Angelina, the Silver Bullet. I'm open to any and all suggestions and comments on what I'm doing next with her. I'm newto the gearhead thing and I plan on learning as much as I can.
Just bought her about 2 weeks ago and the starter died on me the day I got her home. Replacing that was cheap and easy and she runs great. I also need to get a skatter shield for my flywheel, as well as pull the entire engine out for a good cleaning and degreasing. While I have it out, I'm also taking it apart and for safe measures, replacing all gaskets and seals to assure that I never get a bad leak like the oil leak I have from the rear well is now.
Power steering is completly gone, I believe I have a crack in the bottom of my power steering pump because I've been leaking it for days. I ran my hand down all the hosing and nothing showed, but upon touching the bottom of the pump, my hand was covered in the red power steering liquid. Pretty sure that's it, but I'll find out for sure once it's out.
Interior needs a lot of work. I've started a thread in the interior section of the boards if you'd like to give advice or offer suggestions on what I should do. Ask for pics and I'll take em.
Here's what I got so far. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7r3TUvJplc

I've never seen C3 Corvette wheels like that on a 3rd Gen F. And that hood... it's like there is a Corvette in the woodpile or something.

lol, we have the same crappy rubber spoiler. mine is in the same crappy condition as yours. I think '86 was the only year for the rubber wrap around spoilers. ill get a new one soon, hopefully.

nice bird, i had one of those hoods on my 87 v6, hard to find and defininately cool. that wing i believe was in use from 86-88 maybe 89... wheels are someting diff from the crowd, paint the wing(or if in the budget) u can get a fiberglass one that isnt chewed up and bent(like mine was), and maybe factory style graphic kits... and most of all enjoy her!!

Re: '86 Trans Am
Yeah, the rubber spoiler is driving me crazy. I was thinking of getting the fiberglass one and painting it like you reccomended, but that will come later when more money is in my wallet.
The wheels I actually like. Was thinking of putting some chrome torque thrust wheels on whenever I get around to it.
Yeah, that foglight is missing, but I'm just going to buy a new aftermarket set. Cheaper to do that than to just replace that one factory light.
I'm wanting to put all the decals and stripes back on it... just not sure where a good stripe kit for this color of 86 TA would be at.
Also, I'm wanting to replace a lot of the interior. It's been beaten, abused, and torn all to hell for the most part. All the seats (save a part of the driver's seat) are in decent conditio. Most of all, I just want to rip the carpet up and replace it with new carpet. Know any good, cheap places with the moldings for it?

I parted out an 89 a couple months ago and it had the same spoiler. It was still attached on the back but the two sides were hanging down the quarters.
I think I like the rims with that color. I don't know if they would look good with a bright color but think they look nice on yours.

Nice looking car.
I especially like the hood, makes the car look fast even while sitting still.

Believe me, she's got more power than unsuspecting ricers think she does. lol. Was leaving the local cruise in a few weeks ago and a guy in a Civic pulled up by me at a red light revving his hungry mouse. Light went green, he floored it and I just pushed about half way and left him. lol.

I'm not sure what kind of headers are on there, nor do I know what exhaust I have. I know it isn't stock, but I'm not sure what kind it is.

Re: '86 Trans Am
Looks and sounds great. Wouldnt take much to clean her up alittle (engine wise). Just buy some chrome replacement parts for the engine to make it nice and showey!
----------
I would have paid that in a heartbeat!
Very nice find!!

Re: '86 Trans Am
The Wrap arounds were used from 85-90. My neighbor has the T/A that used to be my Dad's and mine. (85 LB9) Was a real pain in the but. Generous Motors at their finest.
I like the rallys very much. Reminds me a bit of the ones they used on the base models without the spokes and center caps.
I dont care for the hood myself. I'm much more a fan of the stock ones with the non functional ram air vents but functional heat extractors.
Very nice color. How's the inside look??

The inside? Looks like no one has bothered to clean it besides myself since 1986. lol. I'm planning on eventually replacing the carpet, headliners, and having the seats either re-upholstered or swapping them for fourth gen seats.
Here are just a few pics of the inside... as it is right now...

Re: '86 Trans Am
Update on Angelina...
Fuel pump went on a few weeks ago and just got around to replacing that a few days ago. Finally got our Camaro fixed (flat tire and bad propotioning valve) so I had been driving it for better has mileage and took my TA out for a cruise for about 5 minutes to open her up from sitting. Went out to take her out a few hours later and she wouldn't start. Fuel pump just mysteriously stopped working after I parked her. A previous owner had a trap door cut under the carpet (I know I'm not the only one to make this discovery after buying the car) so replacing the pump only took about 20 minutes. The hardest thing about it was just the ring seal to get the pump out... after that, just slid the assembly out, changed the pump, slid it back in and put everything back together.
I've got to get new brake pads put on soon. I have very little stopping power right now and the rear-driver's side brakes squeek. Went to buy some new ones and found out that in '86 there were 2 different styles of disk brakes available for the Trans Am and couldn't buy new pads because I didn't know which style I have... so I need to take one off and take it with me to the auto store to get the new ones... haven't driven it much... waiting to get those pads. Don't wanna mess up the rotors.
I also did that patch on my dash pad with the bed liner and vinyl paint, but now it looks right (large cracks are still noticible, but not as bad) but when I go to clean it, this white residue appears and I can't get it to come off. I don't know what it is... any advice?
I also plan on buying a new breather for it and I'm thinking my oil leak is either from my rear main or my valve cover. There is fresh oil on my intake, that's a fact, but can I really loose a lot of oil from a valve cover leak? I'm losing about a quart in a little under a week.
