Just kinda wondering what it would look like... I want black but I dont know if I want shiny black.... Im not talking spray paint here
thanks
like primer/ flat hot rod paint? May look pretty good, especially with some hot rod rims (welds, etc) but why chance it when shiny is a garauntee. Im either way on this topic.
for some reason i dont think that or cars look good in satin black, i seen a pic of a 69 camaro that was satin black it looked awesome but there is a lot of chrome trim and the bumpers that compliment it. our cars lack the chrome that older muscle cars had

my hoods satin black right now, and honestly its not BAD, but I dont plan on doing the rest of the car like that. I think gloss on our cars is the way to go. These arent old school rat rods.
Look....if you are going to paint it yourself ....you are going to end up with a **** flat black paint job like every other dirt bag has thinking that they are cool.
If you want to paint it yourself you can do it for a few hundred bucks. Send me a message and Ill tell you how. I dont want to bore the **** outta everyone with my homemade paint tent.
Im getting my 87 Camaro painted htis weekend and Im going gloos black. I made that decision out of experince and previously having a flat black car before. GLOSS IS BOSS!
Gloss!!! Don't pay to make your car look all clapped out. 70's and earlier cars can pull it off, Thirdgens unless they are 11-12 second bruisers, can't. Doubtful any of those cars above are anywhere near that fast.
This thread is full of irony. The guys with good looking cars like glossy smooth looking paint jobs. Then the guys with the frankenstein body parts, and multi-colored cars prefer the "beat" look.
But it's one man's opinion. Don't take it to personally.

It's not the beat look if it's done right. I have nice shiny paint and I think this:
Looks amazing. There are only a few things I'd do differently. Maybe 19s instead of 20s, a standard 85-90 TA spoiler, flush door handles non-vented fenders, dark tint, just a hair lower and clear markers tinted as well.
Satin looks good on a lot of cars. Primer looks hideous on almost everything but the old school rods and such.
Both look good but I like the stealth look without having to worry about washing my car with the wrong brush... if I have a shiny car I get paranoid and black is the worst but i love it so much......
Satin black is probably the way i'm going with my '91. Yeah, not original, but I figure what the hell. It will always look good.

Owner of a '91 Firebird with the following..
- 1 boat anchor (3.1)
- 1 slushbox
- rust free shell
i think the term we are searching for is "eggshell"
i really like the pic of the photoshopped firebird everyone is passing around is just about right.
you can do a satin paint job and clear it with low gloss clear... they do make such a thing.
it actually looks pretty cool
another thing that ive seen on old cars that looks really trick is a satin paint job with "flames" done in high gloss clear, with the rest of the car cleared in low gloss.
however this look only really works on dark colored cars and especially good on black cars
